Scottie is in the 99th percentile for playmaking at his size/athleticism, and there aren't a lot of holes in his game besides.
This is the point I was making ... his court vision, and ability to see the game IS elite. He just needs his hands and teammates to catch up, and we'll be laughing.

I would also argue his durability (outside of the end of last season) has been pretty exceptional as well.

And I don't know how we don't consider Scottie a physical specimen like the others .. dude is HUGE for what he does.

Early on, and for much of his career, Lebron was more often compared to Magic than Kobe and MJ. He himself has never considered himself a "scorer", and yet now he is the all-time leading regular season and post season scorer.

Scottie is cut from the same cloth I think.

Part of it is probably the optics with Scottie's game being a little uglier than some point forwards, but maybe it's actually a good thing he has those power moves/push shots/etc that look more like Al Horford than Kobe. He has a foundation that speaks to a a lot of future efficiencies, that should make it way easier to build around than many seem to grok.

Get a good mix of shooting and finishing around him, which we now have to a degree, and it should make for winning basketball.

He didn't have to be better than anyone, just be on their level / tier.
Say, if he can be top tier in passing and scoring or rebounds , plus be top 5 on defense that's a pretty strong case for MVP consideration, no?
I mean, Ant is a beast in scoring only but his defense has improved.
I'm asking what other posters think Scottie's path is to be a top tier scorer, passer rebounder? Ant leverages his quickness (first step), speed, strength and elevation to be a good scorer as an example. Defenders can't stay in front of him because of his unique physical gifts.

That's a bit like saying Magic Johnson didn't have one thing where he was better than everyone because there were plenty of great passers at that time.
Scottie's playmaking and basketball IQ is how I see him breaking into that elite tier of players. I'd like to see him leverage that by speeding up his game a bit and just constantly be driving into the defense and putting pressure on the D to stop him while accounting for shooters and cutters. Less slow paced half court sets and more quick offense.

He needs to be more physical, imo.
He already is a pretty good rebounder.
Passing comes with better teammates tho.

            • This will be the 1st season where Scottie is the full time starting PF. No more Pascal mucking things up for him by needing the same spots. Offensively at least, this team is built perfectly around Scottie if we start Gradey. I'm not sure people realize how we've never seen Scottie as full time PF surrounded by complimentary players. He's gonna surprise a lot of people this year, it won't be a tiny improvement, it will be large.

              • Any chance Okoro is not back with the Cavs this season?

                • Looks like Jamal resigns with the Nuggets for the max. He had a pretty awful summer so a bit surprising. But takes him out of the market in free agency for the Raptors assuming they ever had interest.

The longer it's taking to get a deal done, the more likely he goes back to the Cavs. Maybe on a 1+1 type of deal like Precious took with the Knicks. Gives the Cavs time to find a trade partner. And for Okoro to improve his market.

Maybe he takes the QO and leaves next offseason. If he wasn't an RFA someone would have signed him.
