We have never actually tanked though, that's the thing. We tried to build around VC...followed by Bosh....followed by Barg...and then Gay. In our 20 year history the only time we tried to be bad was in our first 3 years, and even then we were bad cause we COULDN'T be good. Otherwise we've always tried to patch things and field a mediocre squad
That is true. The real tanking is what Philly did ... You need top 4 draft pick in 2-3 years in the row and choose quality players. Then spent 3-5 years developing them.

The problem here is that some fans don't have the clear idea and want to rush this process.

Agreed! That was pretty much the Brian Colangelo era. Build around Bosh --> Go Euro --> get aging superstars or borderline stars --> trade them back if they don't work. And in those bad/mediocre seasons, we've been losing all year, then start winning meaningless games towards the end of the season which cost us higher draft positions.

Masai did promise that the Raps will not be in no-man's land. Who knows, Casey might have been retained to be the tank commander he was supposed to be last year lol! I'm more excited for the new D League team. I'm surprised they said it will be in the GTA when I expected it to be somewhere in upstate NY like Buffalo, but hey if their tickets aren't that expensive they might be worth watching!

We had the first overall pick (you don't get that without a tank) and took Bargs instead of Aldridge. Colangelo outsmarted himself thinking he was getting the next Dirk. Aldridge has become an awesome player for the team who drafted him in Portland. BC got his tank year and blew it.

Yeah, Embry did everything to clear the books and set BC up. Could have been Aldridge Bosh. But we got sold on ill mago, me too, and have been stuck since.

Even the Davis year, when we were in the lottery I said if we win to trade the pick for number two and take mkg. Ouch

Why would it need to give us 2 allstar in 3 years to be worth it? Thought the goal was to win a title, not players in the allstar game.
You're just twisting what he said to try to make him look dumb.

Obviously a championship level team needs to have all-star (preferably superstar) level players on it.

            • It's just too bad we were trying to appease Bosh in 2009-2010 though. If we had traded him and tanked that year things would be looking a lot better long-term. I understand why we didn't though, there was a lot of pressure on BC (not trying to justify his actions, just pointing out reality) to try to make sure we don't lose ANOTHER star player.

              DeRozan in 2009
              Favors/Wall/Cousins/PG13 in 2010
              JV in 2011

Bam you've got the makings of your young core right there.

It is nearly the exact same situation today.

No... it's not. I'd say today is more similar to the 2007-2008 offseason. Some success the year prior tying the franchise record for wins, then having an even worse showing in the playoffs against the Magic than we did against the Nets.

Going into 2009-2010 we were not even a playoff team the previous year... Not the same situation at all.

                  • this year is going to be completely and entirely UNLIKE any previous year. all star, new facility, d league team, huge coverage of raptors over the last 2 years... things are gonna change people, things are gonna change.

By All Star I was talking about players like DD and Lowry. You have to be very good with your draft to get 2 out of 4 from 5-10 spot, that can match their talent in 3 years.
I'm well aware of which players you are referring to, I'm questioning the 3 years deadline you pulled out of your butt.

Disagree. He's talking about "making all stars within 3 years" - 3 years comes from what? His own personal deadline?

As for all stars, that is an entirely poor requirement as some years it's easier to make the all star team at certain positions and sometimes it's harder. So of we land a top talent, and they don't make the all star team until year 4 or 5 (cause DD and Lowry sure as heck didn't make it in 3 years), does that make it a fail?

That is very true. We have a fan base that is also excited ( you can ignore the some of the hardcore ones here in RR, they are minority). We need to keep the success and not go down for another 4-5 years with losing records.

You ask these guys ( which I did in another thread about rebuild), and you get a time line from 1 to 5 years for how long it will take for us to get to this point via rebuild while ignoring all the risks.

This team has holes in SF and PF and back up C which by getting right players, can continue its success.

Same people who were celebrating in fall and over reacting with the success of the team and was waiting for miracles ( check their posts), are not over reacting to the losses.

No one ignored the risks of trading away players. That's a bullshit comment and you know it.

There are risks with any plan, but rebuild rewards are significantly higher. It's a personal choice based on your own assessment of risk/reward.

                            • Talk about a deadline for the rebuild is rediculous.

It goes on until we have at least 2 all-nba talent.

Correction, it goes on until we have championships.
