Would it be so bad if we missed the playoffs?
If we were to miss the playoffs it would continue the weird, almost spooky parallel to the reign of BC.

Year One - Big turnaround, 1st in Atlantic, playoffs, first round loss to Nets, coach extended
Year Two - Playoffs, first round loss with fewer playoff wins than previous year
Year Three - Miss playoffs (coach fired early?)

    Things that happened in 2008-09:
TJ, filler, and the 17th pick were traded for JO. This was meant to shore up interior defence/rebounding.
Jose was then signed to a multi-year deal.
Smitch fired at 8-9, replaced by offense-minded assistant Triano
Bargs thrives briefly, everyone hails Triano's handling of Bargs
In February we traded JO for Shawn Marion to fix our perimeter D.

So... for 2015-16 this would be the echo:
Lowry, filler, and 20th pick traded for Greg Monroe or another big
    Greivis takes over starting role
Casey fired early and replaced by offense-minded Nurse
Val thrives briefly, everyone hails Nurse's handling of Val
In February we trade Monroe for a wing

Team slips into tailspin and misses playoffs. Another year of mediocrity before we tank. New coach brought in to oversee tank. Tank accelerated due to impatience. People grow jaded and turn on GM. Raptors Republic forums filled with bitterness and recrimination. Raptor logo rebranded to pineapples instead of watermelons. Shawn Mendes named as Raptors new global ambassador. McHappy changes name to HappyChipotle. Scraptor seeks liver transplant due to long-term Raptors-incurred alcoholism.

Lou had one of the best net ratings on the team. He was not the problem.

The problem was his style of play that encouraged Casey to rely less on passes and more on self-creation.

Hahahaha. This is golden. Freakily similar and Ujiri learned from BC which is even scarier as a Raps fan right now. Maybe we'll give a Hedo type player a 50 million dollar deal this offseason.

This. I don't understand why people keep trying to pin all the blame on Lou.

He gets called a chucker, yet he was the only guard on the team who shot efficiently (56% TS%). He's a 6th man, he was doing his job. Coming off the bench, scoring in the mid-to-high teens and scoring at a good clip.

Problem was the guy playing next to him GV. If Lou is being Lou, Vasquez is just a pylon on D that adds nothing offensively. Add in Ross being the second pylon that just stands around and the second unit gave up a lot of points. Also the backcourt and Ross might be the worst rebounding trio in the NBA, except GV who is surprisingly adequate

The whole bench squad had pretty decent ratings. But that's hard to continue in the playoffs for a bunch of reasons. Same deal with all the free throws the offense (DD, LW and KL) generated - which is what pushed their offensive efficiency so above average. More difficult to do against disciplined players and teams who will focus on your strengths and have seen all the fakes before. Plus I think the refs stopped falling for it after a while.

It is surprising as he can't jump and I've never, ever seen him box out.

Oh, to have a coach who will actually coach rather than letting a bench player dictate the entire team's style of play.

Well when you put it that way, he sounds quite bad. Obviously he's good enough to be retained another year.

That's literally the only reason I wouldn't want Lou back. Casey.

Washington winning 38 is also not gonna happen.

If we used that logic for this season (considering our very strong finish in 2013-14) then we should have been a much better team than we ended up being. A half a season sample size is not a very good predictor of future success.
Whereas a full season sample size is? So we're winning 49 games next year with this roster and Casey?

                            Looking forward to it!

What if DD gets traded ? Lou could become starting SG.
