  • Any Interest in David Lee?

I'm not sure how I feel...former all star, mobile big man, championship culture, team player.

Also Golden State needs to dump him in order to have room to match on Green and offer Harrison Barnes something.

It's on HOOPSHYPE now that they have spoke with his agent.

Any ideas what GS would want. I'm thinking it's pure salary dump

Definitely a pure dump. David Lee has negative value with his contract. I'd consider it as a last ditch use of the cap space (his contract only has one year left) if we strike out with all the free agents we actually want. He's still a starting caliber PF who is good on offense and great at rebounding, but his defense is terrible and he's currently paid way too much. I'd want them to throw in a future 1st or some 2nds to sweeten the deal since that appears to be the trend around the NBA.

Also, before anyone says they will throw in Harrison Barnes as a sweetener, no, no they absolutely won't. They won't even throw in Ezeli as a sweetener. Lots of teams are going to come up empty handed in free agency and be willing to absorb his contract for a year in exchange for some 2nd round picks.

I think they'd probably have to add some picks to move him. I doubt anyone would offer pure salary relief. Everyone knows they are in a tough salary situation, and Lee didn't have a good year. Maybe some team might offer a smaller but longer bad contract?

As to would I want him, it depends what GSW adds to take him.

Depending on how healthy he is it's not the worst thing in the world. Prior to this season, you could put 19 and 10 in ink for him on a nightly basis but the back injury stuff on a big guy his age is worrisome. Still, he's expiring at the end of next season, so it's not like you're committed long term. Also, you wonder what kind of sweetener you could get for taking on that salary?

Hard to see any Western teams helping out GSW by giving them room to re-sign Green and ink Barnes to an extension, so, it almost has to be someone out East?

is he that bad defensively? I haven't watched the guy play much in the last few years. Some bigs play smarter D with age

whatever happens would likely happen during the draft

I'm not so sure unless GS is dangling their 1st round pick this year. Otherwise I'm sure the teams with cap have better ideas to try out before settling on absorbing David Lee.

I just checked and GS has traded away all their 2nd rounders from 2015-2018, as well as their 2017 1st. So maybe you're right since it seems as though this years 1st is all they have to offer. Of course they could still trade whomever they take in the 1st round after the fact.

A draft day trade sounds unlikely. The goal would be salary dump, and for that you would need either cap space or non-guaranteed contracts. Cap space will exist in July. Draft day trade would have to be built around non-guaranteeds, and I don't know if any team has enough of those.

I was actually thinking that Lee might look decent in a raps uniform next year. I don't want to see us going all in with this roster so if we could give them cap room for a year of lee and some future opportunities I wouldn't be opposed.

Good point, I forgot we don't get cap space until July.

Can't you put trades in place on draft day with the caveat that the trades don't become official until July? I forget exactly how the timing on that works.

Wasn't that what happened with us and Atlanta in the Lou Will & Bebe for Salmons trade?

correct me if I'm wrong but we could trade Hayes, Fields, and Hansbrough to them for David Lee and then they all expire on the 1st? we get David Lee and the 30th pick?

Like what just happened with Ilysova

You probably can but MU is going to let those contracts expire because god forbid he has to pick the phone, make some calls and make a deal !!!

Well I for one would be happy with a scenario like that.
