Raptors managements eyes we essentially got 2 first round picks for Grevis Vasquez.... Masai, you're a genius.

But it's even better because although he might be 1st round talent, they onl have to pay him 2nd round salary

one tier lower from #20 isnt like 2 first rounders
We got the LAC 1st round pick, that's one, and we got a 1st round talent in Powell with our 2nd round pick, that's two. A three year old could wrap their head around that. The tier below Wright was still a 1st round pick tier, hence why the Raps were shocked he fell to them in the 2nd round.

A tier below #20 is maybe a late first but definitely a second round pick. Powell may be a good player but he is going to D-league and there is still a chance he isn't an NBA player. It's just Summer League

The tweet explicitly said that the Raptors considered Powell a first round pick. But a tier below Wright. Clearly they had Wright ranked higher than a guy like Portis, so Wright was probably pegged as a 15-20 pick (in terms of tier) and Powell pegged as a 21-30 pick. Those do, indeed, both fall in the first round.

Maybe third times the charm. I don't think it could be explained any more clearly. Masai could personally tell him he thought Powell was a 1st round pick and he'd probably still argue with him by saying irrelevant shit (D-League, lots of 1st round picks play D-League; might not stick in NBA, lots of 1st round picks don't stick in NBA; all irrelevant to Powell being a 1st round talent in the Raps eyes).

At least he's not in the current head coach of the Raptors level of hostility.
If we knew half as much about coaching an NBA team as we think, we"d know twice as much as we do.

                  **Sigmund Freud voice***

It stems from his inherent need to protect all things demar derozan, and in hearing praise of a second round pick who plays the same position the fear starts to well up deep inside his subconscious There is makes up a resonating fear that in some way it may mean a lessening of the importance of Demar and as such a "removal of the rose colored glasses" amongst the management, media and fans and lead to the reduction of all thing Demar currently being presented, or at worst, a removal of Demar from the team.

After #20 there were still guys like RHJ, Anderson, Looney and Portis and Harrell, Brown,Joseph Young and Harrison in the second. Grabbing him at #46 was a steal but it isn't a huge drop. He was projected on Chad Ford list as a second rounder. After the GV, Raptors had to draft a PG and if Wright and Tyrus Jones were both gone Powell might have been choice #2 or 3. Once Raptor took Wright if they had #25 they probably don't take Powell but a PF

Where was Bruno on Chad fords list again?

                        Yeah...

Massai doesnt agree with mock drafts.

Ah, yes, the "I didn't rank him that high so Masai couldn't have either" argument. Solid, if predictable in it's ridiculousness.

Bruno was more of a first round pick then Powell. They were willing to trade Salmons to grab another first from Memphis to take Bruno if they got Ennis and Harris this was actually shown on their draft board. Raptors if they wanted Powell after Wright could have picked up a pick between #21-45 at any point but they didn't make it a priority. You can't say Raptors wanted Powell in the first otherwise they wouldn't have waited until #46

Masai wanted Giannis in his draft. Do you think he didn't want Giannis in that draft? He didn't get him, so clearly he didn't want him.

The Raptors would have had several guys in each tier - you can't say they didn't want any of them because they didn't trade for extra picks to take them all. That's crazy.

They clearly got the 2nd rounder hoping to pick up someone they had ranked in the second round. They clearly were ecstatic that a guy they would have taken in the first round HAD THEY ALREADY HAD A PICK THERE slipped to them.

How is this difficult to grasp?

+1. Reality doesn't agree with mock drafts either. I'm surprised people don't regularly go back to Chad Ford (and other experts) mock drafts 3-4 years later and mock the hell out of them. In hindsight, they're a joke, or mockery, if you will. lol.
