  • The 2015/16 Raptors Power Rankings Thread

We had one of these last season and we haven't done one yet, so, as of the morning of November 2nd:

    CBS Sports: #6 - http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/2...ockets-plummet

This is just like last year in that the Raptors have come out of the gates red hot, only this time it's not a complete and utter fraud. They actually are this good, on both sides of the ball. The defense is better, their stars are better, the bench is better. I'm buying the Raps.

Raptors are still playing teams either figuring stuff out right now or just plain bad. Raptors beat the Cavs when they were trying out Will Cherry. After the ASG roster get settled and teams have a game plan going into the playoffs. Biggest question will be whether Raptors kill ball movement against tougher teams and closer games. That's when team identities come out.

NBA dot com has us at #8: http://www.nba.com/2015/news/powerra...ngs/index.html

Jonas Valanciunas is getting to touch the ball a little more this year. Not only has DeMarre Carroll (16.3 points per game, 8-for-19 from 3-point range) fit in well with the Raptors, but Terrence Ross (12.3, 6-for-13) looks comfortable in his new role off the bench. The Raps are 3-0 against third-tier teams in the East, but play 10 of their next 12 games on the road and 13 of their next 20 against the West.

Good lord. Does even the most optimistic fan here think they're a top 6 in the league team this year?

Power rankings are in the moment rankings. Meaning they take into account momentum and hype. Doesn't mean they think the're going to end up 6th at the end of the year, but that we are playing like the 6th best team RIGHT NOW

Isn't Matt Moore the guy that gets under the skin of Raptor fans - now giving us some early props.

No. Power rankings are serious business!

Yeah, you're right though. I don't know why but I hate seeing the Raptors overrated, especially when they're actually pretty darn good. I guess I'd rather see us go under the radar for a while.

Nicks are 2-1, and rated 12th by both CBS and at NBA.com. Noooooooooooo!

Cautious optimism is what they're preaching north of the border, where the locals haven't forgotten how last season's Raptors bolted to a 15-4 start, which meant absolutely zilch come playoff time. Yet there's no denying that going into Boston on Friday night and beating their only real rival for the Atlantic Division felt rather satisfying.

                        SI.com - #9: http://www.si.com/nba/2015/11/02/nba...ckets-clippers

Toronto started out hot last year and appears to be sprinting down the same path this season with three wins and the effective integration of several new players. However, their biggest off-season move may have been extending center Jonas Valanciunas, who could be a double-double guy this season and is still just 23.

                          After 4 good games:

                          DD: 83pts, 25-58, 43%FG, 1.43 Pts/FGA
                          Lowry: 79pts, 25-53, 47%FG, 1.49 Pts/FGA
                          JV: 62pts, 23-39, 59%FG, 1.59 Pts/FGA

This is impressive. If this pattern remains steady over the course of the season and our defence keeps clicking, this team will be high in the power rankings til playoffs start. Carroll, CJ, Ross, Scola, Pat and BB have provided great support as well.

This is probably the best Raps team ever. To early to assign that label, but if we continue to play strong D, and move the ball on offence then it will be hard to argue against.

We got D and efficiency from our big 3. I'm much more optimistic about this roster given what I've seen so far. Last year was a head scratcher from the start.
