  • Best 5 man line up in the league

Raptors Currently have the best 5 man line up in the league (with over 150 minutes played). Biyombo, Joseph, Lowry, 2Pat, and Ross make up the group, who outscore opponents by a ridiculous 31.7 points per 100 possessions. This isn't a sample size thing either, this line up is our third most used and is only slightly behind the two versions of our starting unit (pre and post Carrol) in terms od minutes played.

What does that say about Jonas and DeRozan?

They don't get to play with Lowry against bench units.

Yeah, it's very important to note that this line up is almost used exclusively at the start of the 2nd and 4th quarters, which is almost always against other bench units.

            L-L-L-Lowry and the bench!

It's high time these guys get a theme song...lunch boxes, a comic book...pogs...the potential is limitless!

Interestingly enough the second best 5 man squad (with over 150 min) is the same except you switch Derozan with Lowry. So I think it more speaks to the success of the Ross, Patterson, Joseph, Biyombo unit, though it is also clear that Lowry is more important to team success than Demar (if that wasn't obvious already). It may also indicate that our starting unit is getting smashed, and considering the months of slow starts we suffered through, that would make sense.

This may say something more about Jonas though. When you start looking a 4 man combinations we have 12 combos with positive point differentials: 2 contain Jonas (9th and 12th) while 8 contain Biyombo.

I just noticed the quote from your avatar is exactly 1 year ago today. Wonder what Cleveland's whiteboard will say tonight.

I wonder if there will ever be some way to filter lineup stats by strength of opposition.

Yeah, Lowry with the bench destroys opposing bench units. Unfortunately, it means Lowry's playing close to 40 MPG to keep the starters' heads above water and also expand the lead with the bench.

Nyloncalculus' # of opposing starters stats does this a bit. But what it ends up showing is that noone plays vs. 5 starters all the time, most players in the league are somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 starters, whether bench guys or starters.
