  • Raptors waive AB, sign Jason Thompson

As reported by Shams Charania, Raptors have waived AB to signe Jason Thompson.

Saw some of you guys talking about him as a potential target. Discuss.

Now the only question is, will Casey bench Scola?

Low risk move for a guy who could take a decent role/minutes here. It's a good move for us.

Probably not... Scola is more vet than JT is

Thompson is 29 though, and has started for years. That could be enough "vet" for Casey.

Good move. Zero risk. Imagine we try to get Bennett onto the 905 now.

Oh thank you Lord. If even half of Scala's minutes go to Thompson, we'll be in a great spot.

Great move. Not that Thompson is that good, but it literally doesn't hurt us at all.

Wait but what if Patterson loses minutes? A double-vet rotation, Casey's wet dream. He can't be that crazy right?

Considering pattersons been getting like 30 plus minutes lately I don't this changes his status as the teams most played 4

Scola's minutes better drop significantly. Sadly I don't see that happening.

Ideal world: Patterson moves to starting role, Scola plays with bench, and if he completely falls apart even against lesser opposition, Thompson takes his minutes.

Casey world: Scola keeps starting, while his minutes continue to shrink. A chunk of his minutes with the starters goes to Thompson, who is still a problem offensively but is at least decent defensively, so a slight improvement is seen, and the status quo is maintained. Patterson remains with the bench and probably sees his minutes creep back down.

I don't think we see that big a change in Wednesday. He will only have practiced 1-2 days with the team, and I don't think Casey will feel comfortable putting him out there, not really knowing our defensive schemes. Good news is he'll be eligible for playoffs, and at the rate Scola is going, he may be out of gas by April

Probable outcome: Scola plays the first minute of every game before sitting and Casey defends it because the starters need "vet toughness"
