I don't think OKC would have leverage if Durant said he wanted to come to Toronto. You lose him for nothing or get something back for him. It would be like when Bosh went to Heat and left Toronto with barely anything.

I think JV would be the trade piece that would have problems have both teams hesitating. OKC wanted JV for Harden a few years back, but then they have Kanter now.

Would you guys do JV + Ross + Prospects/Picks/Filler for salary balance? Or would that gut our team too much
If you can get KD for JV/Ross/picks you do that 10 times out of 10.

If you are KD and you decide to move on from OKC rather than resign for one to two years feeling that OKC is not ready to compete for a championship where would you go? If your goal is to win a championship GSW and CLE are #1 and #2 BUT If you decide to look past those two Raptors could potentially be high on the list. The most logical option is to keep contract in tune with RW but if defence is so porous that you pretty well know that this year and next year you pretty much know you will not win a championship you might start to look elsewhere. If money is not your primary motivation then I think KD could bolt from OKC.

The thing that I keep coming back to is the idea that we get to dictate the terms of the trade.

That part is only true if his list of teams he'd go to is one - us. If there's any other teams he's even willing to go to, we lose all leverage.

Only if those teams are over the cap - the vast majority of teams will have cap space and will refuse to give up anything at all when they can sign him outright.

Right, but all of this assumes that Durant's list of teams to go to only consists of one team - us. I have a hard time seeing him being unwilling to accept any other teams.
The whole premise of the thread is that Durant picks this team. I'm playing along with that. I don't actually think he's going to pick the Raptors. If he does though the Thunder have no leverage. That's my point and it stays on track with the thread.

              Here OP;

After TOR and CLE are both bounced from the playoffs in the second round, LeCrab convinces John Calipari to leave Kentucky, having discovered the only thing more LeCrab than having your Coach replaced as the 1st seed in a .700 win % season; is doing it twice. CLE immediately fires Ty Lue.

TOR is forced to consider all options and MU gets word Coach Kal has interest in an Eastern Conference Head Coaching spot.

DC is furiously collecting rocks. He know's his time with the Raptor's is coming to an end. He finds many rocks and is excited for the opportunity to micromanage his children's leisure time.

Meanwhile the The Dubs are busy demolishing all hope of Timmy D will have an even sweeter swan song than Kobe. And are preparing to unceremoniously route whoever the east sends out.

Nobody notices or cares, as reports of OKC's ownership all going to jail (having their motoring and flight privileges revoked as investigators freeze assets) are all over deadspin and then covered the day after by ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN.

MU makes the best pick from the lottery TOR has seen since Vince. Forever to be remember as the moment RR hit peak MU. And DanH starts letting cap junkies on the forum know he's found a new mechanism in the CBA whereby KD and another SuperMax deal is attainable.

The SEMI Sentient IBM System(CapWatson) in MU's office starts reading that very thread and begins intercepting text messages of the top NBA players. It gathers that LeBron can't get CLE to pay Kalipari. CapWatson Crunch's the numbers thanks to DanH's super sweet loophole. MU gets a text from CapWatson that reads, get rid of your shitty blackberry. The 2nd text is all he needs to get the Receivership Accountants that currently own the Thunder to SnT Durant for Casey's rock and spare parts. JJ, PPat, etc, etc

The final move of free agency is a second SnT with CLE nobody saw it coming. Stein and Woj both send out exacerbated tweets of acknowledgement MUs unit is uncrackable. MU tells the world; the Raps have Signed and Traded Dwane Casey for Lebron James. CLE gets cap relief and the right to pay 3 coach for the next 5 years. And subsequently...

TOR immediately installs Coach Kal as Head Coach. Coach Kal drops knowledge at his 1st presser he left Kentucky to put LeCrab in his place and allow KD and KL to lead the team leaving the King in charge of the drink station. DD is excited at the prospect of winning and becoming a lyric in a Kendrick track having been so very crushed to hear Afflalo's name in black boy fly. He signs at the requisite discount and prepares to share 6th man duty with TR. JV is asked to take a cut to his usage rate. After a lengthy explanation of Usage Rate, followed by a discussion and ultimately explanation that he should have been getting much more and now should expect less, he promises Wictory. Showing little to no appreciation of the explanations and much less enthusiasm to rebound for more superstars.

Raps and dubs in the 17' NBA Final. RR is divided. Half say the prospect of losing in 2017 Finals isn't worth it and we should have been tanking, the other is just happy to be there and are erecting a Statue to MU in Jurassic Park. MLSE is concerned because it's casting a wide shadow on their dusty fart Maple Laughs statues.

Can't get link to work. Story says according to Joel Myers KD is gone if they don't make NBA finals.

Read about that. KD is denying it, but I'd say its likely.

Reasonably certain Durant re-ups for one year with OKC. He gives up something like $40 million over the course of his max contract to max this year instead of next.
