  • re: ball movement/assists.

not all teams have the personnel to take advantage of it. nor does ball movement even mean better offensive efficiency or winning.

going by full season stats last year, okc, toronto and phoenix all ranked in top 10 offensive efficiency but were bottom in ball movement.

meanwhile philly, bucks, utah, charlotte and the lakers were all top 10 in assists and yet bottom 10 in offense.

spurs (and now golden state) are probably one of the very few teams that actually have success with moving the ball.

kings were a bottom 10 in assists last year. this year they're like top 5. yet absolutely zero improvement in game outcome.

Four of the top six teams in terms of assist rate in the league this season are also in the top 5 in terms of DRtg. There may be some correlation between keeping guys involved offensively and playing good defense.

In wins: 14.1 turnovers per game.
In losses: 11.2 turnovers per game.

Obviously, all we have to do is turn it over more and we'll win more games.

Won't lie the ball did move very well tonight without DD and JV. Question where are the bucks ranked in defense?
JV doesn't touch the ball on offense enough to impact the flow of the game

Therefore the change in the perceived ball movement is likely caused by DD, not JV

              • Interesting things from the box score tonight:

Game was played at an unbelievably slow pace, meaning that our DRtg isn't as impressive as the score makes it look, clocking in at 104.2.

However, our offensive performance was way more impressive by the same token, at 122.3 Ortg, our 6th best performance of the season. We had an assist rate of 69.2% tonight, the third highest assist rate we've had all season. The Bucks only hit 2 3-pointers, the least an opponent has hit all season.

                • That "Giannis not that good" post a while back in this thread? Kid just turned 21 and is improving in every area each season. He can already essentially do everything but shoot 3's. Can score, pass, rebound, get steals and blocks, defend, does all of it. Was averaging 20/9/8 in the 11 games prior to this one with 4 triple-doubles. And he's 21.

Not bad for a 2nd round pick.

Bruno is 20 and was taken 31 spots higher.

                  • Would u look at that, we actually blew out a team when we don't have someone trying to pad stats and take wild selfish shots the moment we get a 10 point lead. Nice seeing a team play as a team.

Did I miss something? Giannis was a first round pick. He was taken higher than Bruno.

                      • Also, for the 'it was the Bucks' people, their games this month before this one:

5 point loss to the Pacers,
15 point win over the Timberwolves,
8 point loss to the Thunder,
10 point loss to the Bulls,
6 point win over the Heat,
11 point win over the Pelicans,
9 point win over the Nets.

They were 4-3 this month, with no loss by more than 10 points. They haven't been that bad lately, and we wrecked them.

Nah, Giannis was taken round 1, pick 15. Still a huge steal nonetheless.

                          • Ha! Fun game. Great job stepping up by BB. Lowry was amazing, as you'd expect. Joseph played well. Ross and Powell were both red hot from the field - really nice to see from Powell who also had a few nice drives and did really well defending Giannis.

This was a nice palate cleanser after the last game.

Bucks are kind of bad, though. Still, with a short handed roster it's a really nice win.

By the way, this is why you give guys rest, or shorter minutes, and let some guys deeper on the bench play big minutes sometimes - you aren't necessarily even sacrificing wins by doing so, if you have a solid team culture and at least a couple of your key players are playing.

Lol people really can't say "its the Bucks" considering how bad the Raptors play against mediocre teams.
