Kyle Lowry's Elbow Injury - to rest, or not to rest...

At this point, I honestly have no idea what point you're even trying to argue, beyond just pointing out that nobody discussing Lowry's injury situation is a medical doctor (which nobody has claimed, though medical websites and personal injury experience have both been referenced as factual and anecdotal evidence, by both professional reporters and various posters).

To all posters (myself included):
There was an extensive discussion about this topic yesterday, in the previous game thread. Perhaps the discussion can be continued there (or a new thread could be started), as opposed to derailing yet another game thread with a debate about the merits of resting an injured player.

JWash wrote: View PostTotally agree man (not on the rest costing us games, just on it not being necessary). Don't understand the resting players stuff. If guys are legitimately hurt? Of course sit them. If not, fucking play. Golden State isn't resting anyone, Klay played the entire 4th quarter against PHILLY just so he could get to 40 (the game was over).
This attitude of guys breaking if they play more than 35 mins or don't get rest is just so lame. AI used to play 42 minutes per game and he was 165 soaking wet. Smaller than basically anyone who gets regular run nowadays and literally carrying his team's offense night in night out.
Guys need to work and stay in condition to be able to play their minutes on a night to night basis. Lowry getting hurt last year imo was his fault, not anyone else's. That's why he went to work on his body in the summer because he knew his conditioning was poor.

Just read through the managing minutes thread.
The conversation was some saying we need to rest him more to prevent injury, and others saying we need him no matter what.
What happened? Minutes went up, we won games, but now he might not be healthy for the playoffs. But hey, those games mattered.

Nobody is at fault for this. Accidents happen. What you can control is where you go from here. Now that the accident happened you do your best to get him back to 100% ASAP. And that's by now sitting and recovering. That's why kyle plated all those minutes. So that the April games were meaningless. Now you take advantage, or else what was the point of going so hard the first 70 games?9 time first team all-RR, First Ballot Hall of Forum

Injuries happen, we needed every minute of kyle to build the season weve built, and there is absolutely 0 evidence that reducing his minutes a few minutes each game would have prevented it. In fact it probably wouldn't have. When he banged his elbow should he have been on the bench at the time? Not likely.

He hurt himself, then played more minutes than anyone in the league for the following two months.
There is no logical explanation for that.twitter.com/anthonysmdoyle

The REAL injury happened last week vs Orlando. Yes, it was caused by a prior bang to the elbow but it took ~30 games for it to blow up like that so obviously they thought it was a non issue. Athletes play through pain all the time. That's partly. why kyle gets 12 million dollars a year.
I know it's human nature to be angry and want to play the blame game and have a finger to point, but who gives a fuck now what happened in January and February. We got 16 days to get ready for the most important stretch in franchise history.9 time first team all-RR, First Ballot Hall of Forum

If he was having the greatest season in the history of the NBA, he still shouldn't have been playing that kind of minutes on an injured elbow. We need him for the playoffs more than we needed a #2 seed. There is absolutely no point in making the playoffs if we can't be good enough to win once we get there.twitter.com/anthonysmdoyle

Yeah I agree with Keon. His injury was clearly manageable for a couple months. Then he greatly aggravated it against Orlando so now more drastic measures need to be taken.
It's not like him playing 40 minutes caused the injury. He shot a ton of shots, hit the floor a ton of times, did his usual KLOE things. Somehow versus Orlando he banged it the wrong way, or it was twisted or pulled or pushed or whatever. It's possible that even without the England injury his elbow flares up like that from just the Orlando incident.
This is all getting too hypothetical, especially since debating who the fans should blame for an injury is one of the most irrelevant and silliest things we do.Two beer away from being two beers away.
