Lost in that Philly mess is their coach Brown...one of the important pieces there who apart from being a good coach had to endure and never publicly (at least) complained. Wonder if he continues...he had to have a good relationship with Hinkie to be there so long.

Early rumour is that there is no plan to replace him. He seems like a good coach who deserves a chance to have a real roster.

          What a stupid ownership move

Hinkie was a good GM with a different view and the balls to do it....and ran out of time.

Unfortunate but at least they can become a BC treadmill franchise now lol

And the Embiid pick was still right. If he gets on the court the league will realize he is a bigger, more talented version of KAT. Thats a huge win.

They should continue to tank for Ntlinka in next years draft

          Ntlinka-Saric-Noel-Okafor/Embiid

Trade Noel for the needed shooters and to free up some front court minutes and the long term plan looks pretty good

There's no player on the Sixers that the Raps should be interested with. None of those players know how to win at the NBA level. In fact, players who have left that team since Hinkie took over, have performed poorly for other teams. Hinkie appears to be a poor talent evaluator
They have a lot of picks. BC hasn't hesitated to trade away picks in the past, though salary would be a problem.

The prerogative of ownership is you can do what you want. Buy a team. You can do the same. Btw the other 29 partners in the NBA business are very happy that ownership tied the can to flim flam Sam. They tired of him using their money for his agenda for 3 years. The League office is pretty happy that the 5th largest TV market in the east might now try to compete while rebuilding.

Hinkie had record of 47 and 195. Sports has a simple but effective measurement for success. Wins and Losses. Sam's failure in that regard is epic. The balls to do it could also be seen as stubbornly foolish which is how his bosses business partners did.

BC is and was a lot of things. He has won exec of the year. Twice. That’s as many as Jerry West . One more than RC Buford, Pat Rielly, Danny Ainge. Not bad for the stiff your making him out to be.
He made 3 big errors here. He picked Barney over Aldridge. For reasons known only to him be blew our cap space on Rudy Gay and he misread the very visibile tea leves on Chris Bosh.
              However
He also drafted a pretty good C and your guy JV. He traded a 12th pick for a two time allstar PG who is at the heart of our current team. He drafted and signed DD to a great deal (I know you don’t like him but the league thinks a lot of him) He got Amir for next to nothing and inked him for a 4 year team friendly deal.
So with the bad comes the good. Lieweke designated him as the scapegoat and he took it in stride.
Time will only tell what he does in Philly.

Or he may never play at all. What could go wrong when you draft a big man with a bad back and bad feet ? Lots actually. Mix in a good dose of immaturity on Embiids part and the jury is still very much out on your pronouncement that the Embiid pick was right and will pan out. Guy hasn’t played ball in over 2 years. Some of the skill they saw in him may be gone along with his career. Sam wears that one.

They will be in the lottery again with their own pick. We will see who the new regieme picks out of next years crop of 19 year olds to help the now righted Sixer ship.

That never made sense to me. At all. I can't find them now but I am positive that even after the foot injury there were pundits putting him ahead of Wiggins. It was insane. A big guy who had barely played any basketball can't finish a 30 game season without injuring his back and then the same big has a foot injury and he still goes top 3? I could see maybe taking a flyer after the lottery but top 3?

I hope for his sake he can come back, you never want to see an Oden situation, but when a man that size has foot and back issues and has almost no mileage at all on him, it's hard to imagine how he becomes an everyday NBAer. Again, he couldn't manage 30 games at Kansas and those are 40 minute college games played at, what, like 30% of the speed of an NBA game. I just don't see it.

I think moving MKW was a sign that they were spiralling. Dealing players you drafted a year or two earlier doesn't really endorse your ability to gauge talent.

Besides that I think they are in a good position going forward. I would move Embiid, and hopefully they could get a late lottery pick for him (depending on how bad his situation is at this point). Okafor, Noel, Grant, and Saric is a good start. If they actually get 1st or 2nd and 4th or 5th, that expedites their rebuild. Add Ingram or Simmons, plus Murray, Brown or Dunn. Jeez!

They also have the ability to overpay restricted free agents, or any free agent for that matter because they have so much talent on rookie deals. They can force teams to overpay or add players like Harrison Barnes, Terrence Jones, DMo, Sullinger, Fournier.

And then there is the ability to trade for players with all the assets they have. This team could be a strong playoff team in 2-3 years

BC faced some difficult hurdles in Toronto. The FA market was dismal, so he tried to build of team of European players because Toronto is enticing to them. He made reactionary decisions trying to keep Bosh (Jack, O'Neill), that failed. He had some good drafting moments and swung for the fences. Overall Masai has a better vision, but BC did lay the ground work. I love the culture the Raptors have right now, and it was started by BC but it took Masai to tweek it and and make it happen.

He'll do well in Philli, expect a tougher Atlantic division in the near future.

The Raps need a power forward, not multiple draft picks. Maybe in a three team trade, but there's no motive to fleece the Sixers...

ignoring the nepotism at play in the BC hiring...I think he's gonna do real well in Philly...Okafor, Noel, Saric, Embid, Saukas, Simmons/Ingram? & upto 3 more 2016 1st rd picks, and a war chest of cap space is a dream base to build around...plus they should have the best D-league development team in the league lol BC in Toronto will be defined by Bargnani adventure, O'neil trade, Hedo...I won't hate on his Gay trade because if was a bold move for a talented player who just didn't fit the Casey system but he's the guy that almost swung a Tyson Chandler for Jose deal, drafted & signed DD to a team friendly deal, traded for Lowry, drafted JV and brought a Div title in 06 with great finds like Jorge & Parker. Masai is getting a lot of credit for the success of the raptors but the foundation was laid by BC. I don't think he'll be making the same mistakes as before devaluing 2nd rd picks, constantly turning over the roster and being trigger happy with trades. This is clearly his last chance at running a team..

I read that the ownership leaked Sam's resignation letter 2 hours after he sent it. Douchy Org. Hope they go nowhere fast.

From what I've read it looks to be the latter.
