You don’t see a difference between someone like Gobert’s shot chart and someone like Siakam’s shot chart and how that can have a huge effect on offensive spacing?

You have to guard one out to the 3 point line or you can crowd the paint and be that much faster to protect the rim with the other
by definition a mid-range shot does not need to be guarded out to the 3 pt-line because it is taken from the mid-range, not from 3.

floor spacing connotes having to guard out to the 3 pt line which is why it's an oxymoron

Almost like I said out to the 3 point line and not past the 3 point line

I feel like I’m being trolled. The further you can shoot from the basket, the further you have to be guarded and the more space you have around the basket. It’s pretty intuitive lmao

Yeah tough to make a trade since Philly is a tax team. Was thinking Brandon Clarke from Memphis via some OG trade but Clarke I think has a poison pill deal or something. Did he recently sign an extension?
Something like this... with picks to the Raps from both Sixers & Magic.

yeah i feel like i'm on crazy pills too.

a defender actually needs to position himself several feet in front of an offensive player to effectively contest his shot or cut off his drive.

a defender does not position himself where the offensive player is shooting from because two people cannot occupy the same space (this is a law of physics or something).

most mid-range shots can be effectively contested with a defenders foot in or near the paint, which provides fuck-all in terms of spacing

"spacing the floor" connotes having shooters out there who are three point threats

Alright man. Play with 5 Gobert’s or 5 Siakam’s it’s definitely gonna be just as crowded regardless. Yup.

I’m not sure Philly does this. Orlando would probably insist on one of their expirings like Ross or Harris over Suggs as well.

But yeah, House is a Harden guy so they probably would prefer keeping him.

Also if we’re trading Fred I’d like to receive some kind of draft compensation, not sure who here would be willing to do that.

              • If the original question is if Pascal is a floor spacer... I wouldn't even look at distance. The problem with Pascal is that he can lose confidence in his jump-shot (3-pt or mid-range) for stretches and then he just starts to exclusively drive it to the basket to force shots near the rim or try to draw fouls. Scottie loses confidence in his shot even quicker and it looks worse. A traditional floor-spacer would continue to chuck his way out of the funk, from any distance, until his shot comes back.

the original question to me was the definition of what floor spacing is and whether or not a mid-range specialist provides any meaningful spacing

So Scottie has the ball and he's going to pass it to Pascal so he can ISO at the top of the key? What's the strategy? Or we're just taking long 2's all day?

Look at real contenders. They have 3pt shooters to surround guys that can't shoot themselves. Like with Milwaukee and how they're doing it. Lebron just had a load of shooters back in Cleveland.

Pascal's teams during our chip run (and the year after) were super awesome.. but he also had Kyle (shooter), Mark (shooter), Kawhi (shooter), Serge (shooter), Norm (shooter), Danny (shooter), Fred (shooter), OG (shooter - well at least that year) all on his team.

I don't think it's optimal to have two ball dominant guys that can't shoot 3's well on the same team. That's just my theory. Would love to be proven wrong though.
FWIW during the title season, Pascal actually had a higher 3P% and higher volume than Serge. Not saying he’s a better shooter and it probably has to do with Serge shooting from above the break and Pascal mostly getting corner 3’s.

Serge only got 10% of his 3’s in the corner while Pascal got almost 70%. But he did shoot 41% from the corners. Very respectable.

He’s far from the best shooter but he’s very serviceable off ball.

                      Add picks, as necessary...

                          Why Ayton?

I'm personally looking for rim protection + shooters going into next year. Suns don't have much. Could get Cam Johnson, Saric and someone else I guess.

                            • Rather Johnson and a pick than Ayton

35m for a center will never be worth it for me unless it’s a superstar

                                Ayton..nope.
Sorry his a liability, not a great rim protector. He can't run, slow, his 24..plays like 34.
Plus the money, contract. No No No..
What raptors need 2 do is suround Scottie with guys who can run with him. Mobile Center. There offense should be more gun and run..ie...Showtime Lakers, Warriors Run TMC..
Especially now in this Era of offensive game would benefit this kind of style and Scottie..
