  • Legacy League match 16 Axel vs JimiCliff

The legacy league was created to pit teams drafted by fellow RR members against each other and allow the general RR populous to vote on who would win this winner take all, single elimination game if all players were at their peak performance.

Each team drafted an 8 man roster. Each team provided a gameplan justification as to why they believe they should get your vote. Each team is allowed 1 post for "in game adjustments." The role of RR community is simple, vote for who you believe should win. Post justification if you want (encouraged) and weigh the pros and cons for all to see, but ultimately, your vote decides who will win this tournament of legends.

    Insurance Big - Elton Brand, PF/C. 24.7ppg, 10.0 rpg, 2.5bpg, NBA Sportsmanship Award (2006).

    Axel's gameplan

Lots of PnR with Paul/Howard/Sabonis - forcing Ewing to defend in space; exploiting his poor foot speed. Paul can orchestrate offence using screens from Cs and Drexler. Sabonis can facilitate from perimeter to keep Ewing/Zo away from comfort zone. His perimeter starters combine to avg 15.5 APG. Paul-Drexler-Bird average 23. I have more options to create offence.

Artest has rare size/speed to match LeBron. Bird has length to match, but more skills than, Durant.

Ewing/Zo can't out-muscle my front court but mine can mix it up inside and out more and Howard is superior athlete. Defending in space is a big weakness I'll look to exploit.

His bench has interesting specialists but lacks defenders, putting more pressure on the starters. My bench is better and bigger than his; stronger defenders and rebounders across roster.

LeBron is great. Bird was better

    JimiCliff gameplan

I'm assuming Axel will start Artest to match up with either Lebron or Durant - and if he doesn't, that's awesome, because Sheed can't handle either of them and we'll jump out to a ten point lead.

But even if Artest starts, that's fine, because we'll have the mismatch of whoever Bird guards. Plus, Artest will for sure jack up 4-5 completely dumbass shots, because that's who he is. Howard's going to be sulking (because he won't be getting the ball, because he shouldn't be). Sheed will be Sheed and pick up at least one tech and mentally check out at some point. All of this will piss off Paul and Bird to no end.

At this level of competition, you can't afford to be mentally weak. Axel's team has too many headcases.

This seems like it would come down to a Bird-LeBron showdown, which would be incredible to watch. Not sure who I'm going to vote for yet.

Legacy League match 16 Axel vs JimiCliff

Jimi makes a very interesting argument, not sure I agree with him but it's a neat way of looking at this matchup. I'll wait until adjustments but I'm leaning towards Axel.

"Headcases" Artest/Sheed each won more titles than 60% of his roster. Bird, 3x All-Def, owns Durant. Immobile bigs devoured by Paul PnR. I rebound 4 positions all times, owning glass. Drexler > Dumars. Frazier isn't playmaker, less assists than Drexler; useless vs Paul. LeBron must create vs DPOY Artest.

My bench lacks defenders? 3x All-Defence, 1x DPOY. My bench players are one-dimensional? Each All-Defence team member averaged 20ppg.

Artest and Sheed won in the normal NBA, but this is different. Every team is great; no margin for error. Chemistry and focus must be perfect.

I voted Jimi, but only because I absolutely had to choose ... this one was really tough to judge .. Axel has a great team. But I really like the Ewing/Zo tandem, and I love EJ and Pistol Pete coming in and adding energy.

Real tough though. Could have gone either way.

Both teams are awesome, but this one comes down to the wire and LBJ doesn't disappoint. I gotta go with Jimi.

Great matchup, very close call. I changed my mind a few times, then clicked Jimicliff and now having second thoughts.

I think Jimi's team might be a tiny bit more talented. I like both teams about evenly, and there's no real mismatch.

It's interesting how we've gone from a bunch of teams with twin towers last year to a bunch of teams with power 3s playing at 4. How one year / NBA finals changes things!
