Harden being able to shoot 3s is not why it works, its because Harden, just like Derozan, is able to dribble, drive and if help comes, kick it out to an open shooter (Derozan doesn't do this often because of Casey's iso heavy offense and zero off ball movement).

You can always surround Derozan with shooters, get a coach who can implement a system like that, have Derozan as the main ball handler and if he gets double teamed or trapped, you got shooters all around you.

Problem with Casey's system is the offense is so focused on guard heavy isos/has inconsistent shooters that it makes trapping Derozan so much easier, and Derozan and Lowry struggle passing it out of the double because there is no off-ball movement.
I agree but he still needs to develop a 3pt shot. It's really not that hard if you work at it. Look at Ibaka, that guy couldn't shoot when he first came in, look at him now. Look at Cousins.

I would argue that Harden is a better passer and has a better vision. Some of his passes are crazy. Also DD throws a lot of passes awry mid jump. Not even trying to knock DD, he is just a lot better at scoring than passing.

The threat of his range of course helps a lot. Harden mixes his game. Derozan seldom passes. Major difference

Yeah he needs the 3 ball. 27 ppg in the regular season is nice and all but when you can't match anywhere close to that production in the playoffs -- ever, something needs to change.

              • Converting Derozan to be a play maker...I would like to see that day Demar can shoot the three, dishing out to shooters and passing an alley oop to a flexible Center.

Just to add, major changes can happen with those decisions (+ coaching) this summer, but also trades in the future are a very real option if your guys are on decent contracts. It doesn't all have to happen this summer.
I tend to agree with this. Casey unfortunately (because I really like him as a man) called it out between games 1 & 2. It's not a D first league anymore. It's evolved well past that. And he's realized that too late to do anything about it.

Casey has to wear this unfortunately.

Re-sign everyone, and bring in a new coach built for the modern era. See if an offence built from the ground up on ball movement can carry this team any further. They've shown enough flashes of doing this (and hitting shots) that they could be deadly against even Cleveland.

And to be honest, if things still suck next year, Demar is tradeable. So is Kyle. So is JV. And the kids with potential (norm, wright) will have another year under them of development while we DON'T suck.

Lebron will be another year older. Cleveland will still be capped out as a team. Boston will be massively on the rise, but still 2-3 years away. Washington will be the same team again. With really only Milwaukee climbing up the ladder potentially.

What's happening right now is NOT this teams ceiling. This teams playoff ceiling is 48 minutes of game 5 in Milwaukee. If that team had shown up in this series at all it would be vastly different.

I mean Ibaka and Cousins didn't have the odd mechanics DeMar has. I'm not sure DeMar's mechanics can ever extend out to 3 point range.

EDIT: If we blow it up, I wanna see Jonas go to the Spurs. See what happens if he gets good coaching.

I mean I agree, but there is some risk there, if Lowry or Ibaka regress, or you wind up in a similar position next off season etc. Still I agree, I think you keep Lowry and Ibaka make a couple peripheral changes, maybe get a better coach (if available). If the team regresses or stays the same break up the core.

To me, there is no point in building around just DD or DD and Serge, cause you just won't get a better 3rd player than Lowry. Either keep the team, or tear it all down. As you mention, this way you get a return on your best players if you decide to tear down.

As for JV, whats his value? I just don't think Raps can realistically get a drastically better center without giving up a lot of future stuff, and I don't see teams lining up to acquire him.

                      • Ummm, guys....DeRozan's been working on his 3 point shot for the past 4-5 offseasons. Don't hold your breath.

I'm really excited about playing Cleveland. Not because I think it's a particularly easy matchup, but because this is the measuring stick that the whole season has been leading up to, especially with Masaii's deadline moves. They were outclassed by Cleveland last year, we went into this year with the goal of moving up into that class. Now we get to see just where we stack up.
                          We were all thinking this.

And now we're all fucking morons for thinking this.

I don't know about that - we were right. This is the measuring stick. It's just not telling us what we hoped it would.

I'm just disappointed it's been this easy for them. The Pacers gave them harder games than this. The Pacers! We can talk about the game evolving, 3's, etc. etc., it still shouldn't look like this.

We're morons for assuming there is anything worth measuring in the first place, lol.
