I think Powell's going to look a lot better once Lowry's back. He can't create for himself at all.. he needs someone else out there to take attention away from him
That's the issue. He can't create a shot for himself at all. His handle is below average.

You have to know your strengths and weaknesses as a player.

Or maybe the coach should put him in a position where he doesn't have to create for himself.

That's on Casey to stop trotting out those all-bench units imo. There's nobody in that lineup that can really generate offense or finish at a high % at the rim. Outside of the Miami game, that lineup has been BAD and they keep getting significant minutes together.

        • Powell was s bit overrated and cant adjust to his new role.

Powell and Joseph were running Demar and Lowry's offensive sets during the all-star week practices, per Casey. However, Joseph has calmed down quite a bit since he's been in the starting lineup and isn't trying so hard to emulate Lowry all the time. Not that he even could, but fortunately he's finally figured that out. Powell is simply way over his head trying to be Demar Jr. Like I said way back, his handles just aren't good enough.

            • Yuck.

Not really in the mood for analysis, but... This one sucked hard, but the team wasn't that bad overall. Started well, obviously.

Defence fell apart in the second half, but there was an element of the Charlotte game in there, where the Pacers were hitting everything. Then of course we panicked and stopped running an offence (there must have been a solid 4 minute stretch between basic pick and roll play calls). Which only fed their transition game and took the energy out of the defensive effort. I thought we needed to go small to kick start something, but a) we did it way too late and b) when we did, we went way too small, with Tucker and Carroll at the forward spots, and proceeded to get demolished on the boards late.

And hey, when your offence grinds to a freaking halt for an entire half, maybe try giving your scoring big man a look inside once in a while. Oh, wait they did, if you define a "while" as the entire half, and once as literally just once.

This wasn't the reason we lost (though it played a part), but if I have to sit through one more minute of watching that fricking moronic all bench unit pass the ball to Powell and clear out for his inevitable turnover on a haphazard drive into traffic... Gah!

Let's see... JV was OK. Not great. DeMar managed to score in spite of the lack of any real offence in the third, but this was a good old fashioned flashback game to the original DeRozan 1.0 defence of old. Just horrible on that end. Not that anyone else was much better - Ibaka was garbage on both ends tonight, Pat couldn't hit a shot, Tucker was pretty useless. Carroll hit some shots, I guess?

Couldn't really care less about the kerfuffle at the end. Maybe try giving a crap when the game still hung in the balance. Bah, that's not fair, it wasn't effort in this one, they just played stupid much of the night, especially late.

Please let Lowry come back soon.

              • Powell btw with ANOTHER goose egg. Only played 8 mins too.

He needs to figure it out quick. Or else he'll be quickly out of the rotation. Right now he's just unwatchable. Worst player on the team right now, yes worst than Carroll(Bruno doesn't count).

He's being asked to be DeRozan. He's not a DeRozan replacement, he's a Ross replacement, or even a Carroll replacement. No matter what people wanted to think about his potential as a backup point guard (which was crazy), he does not have the handles to even replace DeMar's secondary scoring role with consistency. He's a 3+D with a little extra pop on the break. If the team used him that way (as they have when he has spot-started this year and last), he'd be fine.

These moronic bench units are killing him. It's like we're making the conscious decision to not score for a few minutes while they are out there. They try a bunch of stuff, but Poeltl's not enough of a roll threat to effectively open up Wright's game, so unless Pat or Tucker catch fire and hit some not-so-open threes, every possession comes down to Powell trying to play 1 on 5.

                  • Not much to see here...carry on. They built up a solid lead in the first half in a game that means little to them and the world to their opponent. They showed they could win. Are they really going to fight through every screen? Box out every rebound? Maybe that's something playoff teams do or maybe playoff teams realize they know when to step up. I believe the latter. I don't love that Derozan played 40 minutes though.

                          • The title isn't clear but it appears the game is tonight.

Second game of b2b on the road. Even though it's the Pistons and they are basically out of the hunt now.. it'll be a tough game. Was looking at this as a scheduled loss but with the loss yesterday who knows. Would hate to give up the 3rd seed now that Cleveland looks to be winning again.
