Is JV injured or something? I see he's only played 5 mins.
I believe suffering from "Tony Brothers-itis"
He is too good of a ref for that BS.
    Just awful.
Its sad Masai nor league will do nothing.
Unfortunately ref also overshadowed great performances by both IT & KL.

Which is why the refs got JV out of the game early.
Does Brothers get an assist on IT hoop?

      • Which isn't very encouraging for the playoffs. Over-coming adversity is a huge part of being a champion and it doesn't really look like we have that in our makeup.
It's not really about overcoming adversity - it's simply that their margin for error is small. It's why they aren't going to blow teams out nightly and aren't ever going to have an easy time in the playoffs.

The championship issue, to me, is different. The problem there is that they aren't as good as the Lebrons. Mostly cause they don't have Lebron.

If any one piece of that mix breaks down, this quickly becomes a very mediocre team.
Frankly you could make that statement for any team, except GSW. Even the Cavs with Lebron are stumbling a bit with Love out. On the flip side, the Spurs came came into Toronto with Aldridge (2nd tier star) and a D-League squad and spanked the Raps on our home court.

Basically, this is the argument of ball movement system vs. your-turn/my-turn ISO system. ISO system might be okay if you've got Durant & Westbrook, but a ball movement system might be better if you've got more depth to get more out of role players. The debate rages.

Man the Kings (and the Suns) effed up huge. Can you imagine Thomas running around the perimeter with Cousins wreaking havoc in the paint. Pretty much un-stoppable offense.
Cousins didn't like Thomas taking shots away from him, especially in clutch situations. He wanted a "playmaker" (ie someone who wouldnt dare take shots over him) so they shed Thomas and signed Collison.

Thing is, it's a very good team but it's a very good team with a small margin of error. You can say 'figure it out' but figuring it out with this team requires it to be at or very close to full strength, DD and Lowry playing at a high level, different role players stepping it up game-to-game, maximum effort every night and an unwavering commitment to fundamentals.

If any one piece of that mix breaks down, this quickly becomes a very mediocre team.

No, you actually can't make that statement for any team. There are 3 very good teams out East. Not 13. So, you could only make that statement about those 3. Of those 3, the Cavs have a wide margin for error because the have Lebron. A lot can go wrong and they can weather it because they have the greatest player of his generation. Boston and Toronto have smaller margins for error.

System has little, if anything, to do with it. Systems change over time but having deep, talented teams and/or transcendent players will always give you a big margin of error to play with whatever your tactics.

Agreed. People need to stop worrying about cleveland, and just enjoy the whole ride again. Don't assume round is a given, celebrate a round 1 win and every win in every series.

There's only 2 teams absolutely fucked in round 1. 8th seed east and 8th seed west. After that, all bets are off and expect at least a couple upsets. Spurs should also probably dispose of 7th seed okc or memphis in 5, but ya never know. 3 6 and 4 5 can go either way in either conference.

But again, what you're implying is that Aldridge + scrubs shouldn't be able to beat the #2 team in the East on their homecourt convincingly, without Kawhi/Gasol/Parker, when the Raps were hungry for a win.

Spurs don't have Timmy D anymore. Ginobili is done and Gasol and Parker are close behind. Aldridge is good, but arguably a 3rd tier, one-way pseudo-star.

So, whether you want to call it systems, or coaches who can adapt their style of play over time to maximize more of their roster beyond obvious star players, then you're really just into semantics and splitting hairs. That Spurs team that rolled into town this season was in no way, shape or form a deep & talented team, whereas the general NBA consensus is that one of the Raps great strength is their depth.

                        • I am sorry but this had to be said: the last 6 minutes of the game was very frustrating to watch. Thomas pretty much did whatever he wanted on the offensive end. Also it was shocking how the whole Raptor team on the offensive side, just kept on passing the ball to Lowry for his hail mary's for a very predictable offensive scheme. I am sorry but we aren't good enough team (or the guys that were with Lowry) if they cannot create an offensive opportunities for themselves or others. If Bebe is crossing the middle lane with the ball and he gets to the foul line, he better scores!!, no more passing it to the outside corners for a lower percentage scoring chance. You are there already!!! GET IN THERE AND GO HARD TO THE BASKET!! fuck!

Washington is playing a really really great basketball right now. I'm not even talking about their home record. ( 16 W in a row!! FFS! )

This team is dangerous. Props to Scott Brooks

                              • We need to stop looking at our record and start playing some good basketball again. And no, I don't mean 1st-place offence basketball shit. Everything was fine when 3pt-ers were going in, but it's not what we should do.

DEFEND. FOR FUCKS SAKE, JUST DEFEND.
