  • Annual Rappie Awards (SEE POST #47)

I'm going to ask for your top 3 picks of the NBA notable awards RAPTORS ONLY. I will tally the votes on Friday (1st worth 3, 2nd worth 2, 3rd worth 1)

The rules are, there are no rules. You can interpret "Valuable" or "Improved" etc however you want, and include any Raptor that has appeared this year, including Ross. You can value Serge and PJ's 20 some odd games however you like. Also note: for rookie of the year, I'm being more loose with the definition of rookie like the NHL. I'm including Bebe, Wright and Bruno because they've never been a part of the rotation before this year. I'm omitting Norm.

Here are my picks(put reasoning if you feel like it):

    Most Valuable Player
    1. Demar Derozan
    2. Kyle Lowry
    3. Serge Ibaka

    Defensive Player of the Year
    1. Patrick Patterson
    2. PJ Tucker
    3. Serge Ibaka

    Sixth Man of the Year
    1. Patrick Patterson
    2. Cory Joseph
    3. Norman Powell

    Most Improved Player
    1. Demar Derozan
    2. Bebe Nogueira
    3. Jonas Valanciunas

    Rookie of the Year
    1. Delon Wright
    2. Pascal siakam
    3. Jakob poeltl

    3. Serge Ibaka

    6ix man
    1. Patrick Patterson
    2. Norman Powell
    3. Terrence Ross

    ROTY
    1. Jakob Poeltl

    3. Pascal Siakam

    MIP

    1. Demar Derozan
    2. Norman Powell

I really think tross played well for us this year and he showed great growth compared to last year. At this very moment I would rather have tross then norm, but in the long run norm is a better asset.

Wow, this is actually tough with the Ibaka/Tucker late additions (how do you weight 23 GP?), the Ross trade, the way Bebe/Siakam faded while Delon/Poeltl came on at the end of the year, and the very recent disappearance of Norman Powell

I'll try to give a lot of weight to overall production for the year as a whole:

              Most Valuable Player
              1. DeMar DeRozan
              2. Kyle Lowry (sorry buddy)
              3. N/A

              Defensive Player of the Year
              1. Tucker/Ibaka (Tucker + Serge on D have been huge, double vote probably breaks voting system)
              2. Patrick Patterson (Raps are just a lot better when he plays, switches + smart D just don't show up in the box score)
              3. CoJo (really found himself at the end of the year)
              Hon. Mention: Terrence Ross

              Sixth Man of the Year
              1. CoJo
              2. Patterson
              3. Powell
              Hon. Mention: Terrence Ross

              Most Improved Player
              1. DeMar DeRozan
              2. Lucas Nogueira
              3. Terrence Ross

              Rookie of the Year
              1. Delon Wright (would be a no brainer if he had the full season)
              2. Jakob Poeltl (probably should have gotten more burn earlier in the year)
              3. Pascal Siakam

Guys are cheating.. Wright's not a rookie. He played in 27 games last year. If he's a rookie then so is Powell.

I'm fine with that, dead people voting is where I draw the line.

Bebe Noguiera should never ever be on anyone's DPOY list. I'm just sayin......he's actually a worse defender than JV.

This is the first non-garbage time he's played.

Plus, we're just playing by the rules outlined in the OP.

I really tried not to actually, aware of my own bias. But tough to give MVP to guys only here for a couple months, and raw production stats (like total WS) show him as the runaway third most productive player. Almost put Pat in there (with how the team collapsed mid-season when he was hurt) but tough to peg a glue guy as MVP, and he was already in my DPOY and 6th man lists. Couldn't talk myself into anyone else, he was basically there by default.

MVP - Derozan. Nothing really needs to be said here.

DPOY - Patterson, with a caveat: Ibaka if based only on the last quarter of the season.

Sixth Man - Joseph. Steady. 79 games played.

MIP - Wright. DLeague to playing himself into the rotation. And maybe even the playoff rotation....

Rookie - Poeltl. Siakim did yeoman's work early on but Poeltl is clearly the better player and prospect.

I'm totally fine with it. I would have said Jonas if not for the major impact that Tucker had, especially in the locker room. To me, the impact that Tucker has had on this team is nothing short of a miracle and it's exactly what we needed. In terms of pure production, JV is a beast, I'm just valuing Tucker's short time here a lot.

                              MVP:
                              1. Demar
                              2. Lowry
                              3. 2Pat

                              DPOY:
                              1. PJ
                              2. Pat Pat
                              3. Corey

                              Sixth Man:
                              1. 2 Pat
                              2. Corey
                              3. PJ

                              MIP:
                              1. Demar
                              2. Delon
                              3. Demarre?

                              ROY:
                              1. Yak
                              2. Van Vleet
                              3. Pascal

Tried to keep new players picked up mid season off my list, but PJ has been undeniable in what he does. Serge probably should have gotten some DPOY consideration as well. No way Pascal should be ahead of VV. Fred has played critical games, in critical moments, despite having three other people ahead of him at his position. At one point Pascal was the only available 4 on the team. He got passed by 2 green center prospects for PF depth.

That said, he's made strides in the D League, I think he's got a decent future, so he makes my list.
