Well his coach shows no confidence in him - pulled him off first while he was our best offensive option and no where near our worst defensive player.

Oh he definitely should not have been pulled. We are not at an advantage playing small. We can go through really bad stretches offensively when our players get sped up. And we don't rebound well enough at any other positions to offset JV sitting for extended stretchs. Our "scramble D" still give up open looks with the more mobile unit, and even if they give up slightly less, we get beat up on our glass more, so it doesn't give us a real advantage.

We can get away with it in the regular season, where teams are less prepared, have less rest and we outclass a good chunk of teams in the league in terms of talent. It's a lot harder in the playoffs when you play into the other teams strengths.
