  • ^He's talking about who he is right now not what he's going to be in 2 years. PG was way tougher

He did that plus he locked down Derozan. I don't see Giannis having scoring explosion like this against Raps. He had 4 fouls he was in foul trouble and if that continues he'll have tough time staying on a floor

Keep in mind Giannis is only TWENTY TWO years old.

It's funny you go on to point out George and Butler meanwhile at the same age Giannis destroys both of their stats at the same age especially Jimmy of course. PG (who was better than Butler) averaged less in almost every statistical category (points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals) when he was Giannis' age (and STILL is beating PG in most) and that was the actual star version of George because he was an even better athlete pre-injury.

I have no idea how you figure it's even easier when Giannis dwarfs nearly anyone not named KD or LeBron. He's 7 ft and in maybe 1 or 2 steps of the 3pt line with his insane length he's in dunking distance and with the length/athleticism is above everyone and he keeps the ball high like a C so you can't swipe at it. Then step backs or even regular shots he towers over guys so they are all basically decent looks. While PG and Butler maybe crafty, you can prepare for crafty with hand movement and footwork...if you physically can not contest his shot or stay in front of him (which is 98% of the league) then you really cant guard him properly.

Its not as simple as just let him shoot...he still has the option not to lol and does elect to pass on it many times because even if you back up that actually allows him to use a long stride for a single dribble then 2 more super long strides to the basket AND he is VERY quick for a player his size which means you are almost always a step behind which makes everything I already mentioned that much harder to contain. The kid is ALREADY ahead of PGs career curve, is younger than Powell and Delon and he is just getting started and can literally play all positions. He isnt LeBron but he is the next big thing (Simmons may join him too if he can stay healthy)...just watch in 2 years what an absolute beast he is going to be.
RIGHT NOW, Paul George is a better player than Giannis.

        I dont think so.

Giannis has his team with a better record, does more to get them going and aside from scoring has PG beaten in most statistical categories except scoring which would make sense considering he distributes the ball more.

Giannis also has a better coach and a better supporting cast than PG. Put PG on the Bucks they'd probably be 4th in the east rn. Paul is a better defender and scorer for sure, Giannis is a better distributor and shot blocker but PG's ability to get buckets outweighs Giannis' ability to do a little more of everything else.

          • PG13 was everything for that Pacers squad last season. Giannis is superb but he definitely has the benefit of playing with a much stronger team that can survive without him on the court.

We really only beat the Pacers in that series because PG is human and needed to get some rest.

            • Kidd mentally prepared his team better than DC did. Although we shouldn't have required it considering we've been here 4 straight years. Guys need to learn to flick that switch and play hardnose intense ball for 48 mins, this ain't the regular season no more. DeRozan and Ibaka were the only two who came to play, Debo was super aggressive going to the bucket but they adjusted and our guys weren't making their shots.

                Exactly.

Like i said, keep Giannis on the perimeter(easier said than done i know). Put Tucker on him. Let him shoot the ball, stop turning the ball over.

If the Raptors do all that, then Giannis shouldn't be much of a problem.

                • well, first of all, PJ or Powell (no Caroll thank you) should be on Giannis same second as raptor's shot goes off. Defense should start right from their baseline, not on our perimeter line. Don't let him start running. Keep body on him all the time, force the ball out of hands. Force others to create something. Make him work hard to get the ball.
and keep others in close check - no collapsing or double teaming. Let Giannis score 50 if needed, he'll get his anyway, but don't let rookies get hot or Greg Monroe feasting.
Giannis is a beast, but he can't win alone - the load is to much.

and hitting own open shots would be nice thing to begin with

Tbh the Raps almost lost was cause Lowry and Derozan didn't show up. Both teams played terribly.

Seems like Giannis is being under rated a bit, but idk. Doesn't really matter, but stats favor Giannis over PG, and its not particularly close. There is nobody who can matchup with Giannis athletically and physically.

But we ARE alone as the high seeded bed-shitters. Embarrassed on our home court.

                            • If Casey has balls, he starts Tucker. Carroll's length did nothing to Giannis as he just used his strength to get to the paint.

Re Giannis - he's great, probably the next big thing in the NBA, but he's not there yet. People are acting like he's LeBron James.

IMO its much easier to guard Giannis than a guy like Paul George or Jimmy Butler. Giannis, unlike those two can't shoot and can't really create his own shot. He's at his best in transition. So why not keep him on the perimeter? put Tucker on him. Also put Pat and Ibaka on him at times. Rotate all 3. Carroll is simply too slow and too soft. Again, keep him on the perimeter, let him shoot, shouldn't be that hard right?
If Carroll starts again that will be the sign we are screwed. If Tucker starts and we rotate coverage with Ibaka as suggested we should win.
