Seems like short term prioritizing, which suggests to me the plan is to do some major stuff soon, rather than just lock in the core and see where they can take us.
    Intriguing.

Might you care to elaborate on major and soon?

What kind of major are you thinking?

    What kind of soon?

    • No love for Norm all over this site. I know he's one of the few tradable assets but .....

plenty of love for Norm but our biggest asset is guards and he had a player option at the end of the year. He's the most variable variable from that point of view.

Well I mean my thought is a trade for a star - be that Harden, maybe Washington moves Beal, maybe Indy moves Oladipo (and Turner?) at the deadline... But the short term flexibility is what they prioritized so I think they are on the hunt. Maybe a move never comes about but I think they are looking, actively.

Initially I wondered the same thing, and I imagine this is their goal - but its not necessarily indicative. Assuming they like the core, its their last year for a while with meaningful capspace. Even if we have nothing in mind beyond keeping their guys, itd be irresponsible to not give yourself the option should someone become available.

So besides the post meaning Norm, OG can be traded right now. It's just difficult to match salary, as he only counts as his 4M in outgoing salary but counts as 15M in salary for the team trading for him. Called a poison pill deal.

                  • My bad calling OG Jerami Grant 2.0. I'm watching this Pistons/Celtics game - Jerami Grant is way better.

Jeremi Grant is more like pre-bubble Siakam, with less playmaking. He’s a bargain at $20M/yr, if he keeps this up.

                        • What key players do we have playing well above their contract? We need more of those.
                          Not Lowry
                          Not Siakam (obviously)
                          Not FVV any more
Not Norm many nights whereas he was a relative bargain when playing well
                          Not OG
                          Not Baynes

Maybe Boucher if he keeps this up will outplay his 7M/year
Len at 2.3M but I said key player but he could end up being a relative deal

OG is, because he’s still on his rookie contract. 18M/yr extension doesn’t kick in until next season.

TD should be one of those guys but his confidence is shot and it looks like he’s regressed.

Fair enough, you're correct on that technicality
