Who’s going to be the first option? Scottie? He doesn’t even take charge when he’s playing against bench units.
It could be KD/Luka/Steph, and OG as the second option would still be a horrible idea.

My God, things are getting so bad around here we're talking about OG being the number 2 option. That's depressing.

So completely ignore my response to your posts so you can continue to slag OG for no reason. It's getting tiresome. I explained very clearly why Brooks is underpaid for his current production (he was shitty every season before this) and why OG is worth a max (he gives elite defense and can score an efficient 20pts a game).

Also why not post the video of Giannis beside himself with no answers for why he couldn't score on OG?
OG averages 15.5 ppg.... not 20 ppg. And Brooks averages 13.4 ppg. Is 2.1 ppg worth an extra $20M in salary?

Finding the next undervalued 3&D guy should also be a high priority, instead of always taking the lazy, expensive path. We always seem to run out of options, lose all leverage and are forced to over-pay our own guys.

Brooks ($21.5M AAV) guards the best player on the opposing team. Makes his teammates play better defense. Makes guys like PG whine & complain to the refs. DOG.

OG is a great defender, but Pat Bev specifically singled him out as... NOT a dog.

It could also have the opposite effect. If you're a team, like Raptors, whose policy is to operate under the luxury tax, then a more punitive system means that you'll be even more incentivized to stay under the cap. Which means that it will be even harder to build your roster if you're overpaying guys like OG. You need guys on value contracts and rookie deals. If Scottie & OG become our max players.... where is the scoring going to come from? In a league that's trending towards offense, on purpose, via rule changes? Max contracts on legit contenders are typically reserved for a best scorers. Even DPOYs don't always get max contracts.
OG has 4 20+ point games this season and we won all of them. He's a perfect offensive compliment to Scottie. He just needs shots, and unfortunately we've reverted back to giving all the shots to Pascal and that decreases the offensive effectiveness of Scottie and OG.

Give OG 16 shots a game he will average an efficient 20 points a game. That's plenty for a number 2 option.

Give Scottie a little more shots than that.

Surround them with shooters who space the floor and compliment Scottie's game.

The key to everything is dealing Pascal so the shots and minutes are there for everyone else.

The cap continues to go up it won't punish overpays. It punishes teams that habitually operate above the luxury tax but that's not us.

OG at $40M is a far better deal for this team than Pascal at $50M AAV.

OG would be our only max player if we deal Pascal so not gonna cause us any cap issues.

Keeping OG at $40M AAV isn’t an obvious move, in a cap environment that’s going to severely punish overpays.

Judging an individual defender based on total team results when the team is dramatically worse when he sits is an interesting, if befuddling, stance to take.

Keep OG and trade Pascal. The obvious move.

You replace Pascal in the lineup with a good shooter and spacing issues go away.

so no buy low on Giddey?
Definitely a possibility that Giddey won’t be able to cross the border. Also MLSE squashed the Udoka talks after trial ballooning it in the media.

Others questions are: Is OG's D a luxury, since we can't translate it into an elite team defense, despite having superior defenders up and down our lineup?

Also... are we better off trading OG and getting back an offensive minded player, and/or replace OG with a slightly lesser 3&D (e.g. Dort, Tre Murphy) on a cheaper contract? Kind of like the price/performance tradeoff we did with Fred & Schroeder. I don't think anybody here still wants Fred at $43M/yr... do they?

Better question would be are there any teams out there that would offer OG the max? Would have to be a bad team like Houston last year that has cap space to spare, but in Fred's case they were looking for a team leader/mentor as much as they were for someone to run point. OG is just a solid, good player, but not going to give you the intangibles. Not sure how many bad teams want to invest in a max for that, but looks like we may find out. Hopefully it's slim pickings and we can get OG for something below.

It's a league investigation at this point with no police involvement and no charges laid.
Still, MLSE values optics and share value over all, including winning so I highly doubt they would employ him unless as a FA and play the old "everyone deserves a second chance card". Or if it continues as is "we're satisified that nothing illegal occured"
