Will OG be better than Siakam by the end of this year? End of next year?
Depends on how you define better. He can handle the ball in situations but he's not a guy that can carry a team. Siakam struggles, but has that ability. He can have the ball in his hands and make a play from the top of the key. Whether it's a step back 3. A drive to the paint and a kick out.. or a dunk/layup in traffic. He needs to work on parts of his game, but he showed that ability to earn the MIP award.

OG can get there I guess, but I wouldn't bet on it. Instead I think he could be our best analytic player. More efficient than Pascal. Better defender. Ends up with a better net rating. But I think he'll have a different role than Pascal did last year, and therefore won't get the opportunity to become "better". Also the stuff OG is good at isn't going to get you an MIP award (voted by media) or an all-star birth (voted by fans, media and players). He'll be recognized by coaches and smart media members like Zach Lowe.. but he'll never be in like a top 30 list on an ESPN NBA Rank or something. He's just not built that way.

But yeah I think fans will appreciate his game more than Pascal's in a year or two. Pascal's failures in the bubble last year put a black mark on him. Add the max contract and you'll start seeing #TradePascal become trendy this year. OG won't have those expectations, and I'd be shocked if OG got a max deal next year.

      • How high did Draymond ever get in a top 100? 25-50? He got recognized with no scoring at all. OG may never be considered elite and wont likely play on one of the best teams ever so diminishes some reputation, but he can make All-NBA third team on a career year sometime. Dont see him getting enough usage to get MIP, he already had 8 fga per game on great efficiency. Think its moreso that he can get the ball to do something other than just finish the possession with a shot or assist. Should open up the offense a lot more cause you can really start to branch out the offense if everyone can handle up the court, drive, kick, shoot, pass.

Draymond was also a top 10 assist man in the league, and had many games with triple double. Which meant something before Westbrook and Harden turned that into a side show act.

OG averaged about 5 boards and 2 assists to go with his 10 points last season. To make an all-star / all-nba member he'd need to get into the 15-17ppg range with at least 8 boards. That's the low end.. plus we still have Kyle and Pascal on the team to take away Raptor votes.

I think the one thing we might see OG get is an all-nba defense selection. He deserved that last year. If he ever gets an all-star nod I'd be floored.

Pascal is a LOT better than OG. And I think there's still a lot of room for him to improve. The hype around OG after one preseason game is ridiculous. People have really lost their mind. Pascal does everything better than OG other than 3pt shooting. Better handle, can create his own shot, better post up player(OG has no post up game), better finisher around the rim.

If OG turns out to be a better player than Siakam then the Raptors have a legit star. Remember, Pascal was an all star starter last year. He was that good in the reg season.

            • Lol. OG needs to get his USG at least to 20% before we start talking about him winning any awards and surpassing Pascal. He’s been hovering around 14-15% for his entire career. That’s pretty bad.

              • What I want is for OG to take Bam's spot on the All-NBA defense 2nd team.

                  • I'm really optimist with OG right now... Can't wait to see his season. I think he'll do really good, I think he's gonna step up. I see near 15ppg, 6rpg, 2apg, 1.5spg and near 1bpg.

                    • About 36 hours til we find out if OG gets an extension. Some are saying he will now that Giannis has signed. I don't see it. I don't think the hard line that was taken with serge and marc (not to mention structuring Fred's contract to dip in 2021) was all for Giannis and not a broader plan in general. Will be interesting to see if they stick to that plan.

I think locking him up would still be the best option. I don't think they will handle his situation the same way they did with Serge and Marc. A Powell type contract would be nice. 4yrs, 50-55M? Fingers crossed!

Might be a optimistic in my opinion. OG is probably looking at 18-20 per. So like 70-80 mill for 4 years.

Edit—and his agent is Rich Paul who will drive a hard bargain.

I don't think his agent is Rich Paul. His agent just works for Klutch Sports

80M should be an absolute floor for OG. He knows as well as we do that 2021 FA is drying up and he could easily get a max deal next summer. Why would he sign for dramatically less now? Heck, 20M was what I would have expected him to ask for BEFORE Giannis and Gobert signed their extensions...

seriously? I mean I love him as a player... But he did enough in his career to deserve such a contract?
