  • C'mon man. Jaylen Brown and OG are two COMPLETELY different players. Jaylen Brown is a STUD. He should've made the all star team last year, he's probably going to make the all star team this year(if there is one). He's an elite 2 way player. I've been sayin for a couple of years now that he's a better player than Siakam. Well, Brown proved in the bubble that I was right. He completely dominated Siakam in the playoffs. He literally shut him down.

As for Siakam, he is WAY, way better than OG. Like, ti's not really close.

Yeah I was just thinking this. OG's probably about a year behind Brown in his development, hopefully this is a real breakout year where he gets consistent opportunity in terms of increased role & expectations.

Boston's got Tatum/Brown/Smart vs. Siakam/OG/Fred. Who ya got?
In order I think the best players right now are:

      Tatum Siakam
      Brown
      OG
      FVV, Smart

Tatum already has that star potential showing because of his offense. Siakam could be better if he meets his potential, but he's not there yet as a lead player. Edge goes to the other guys for now.

Sometimes having a bigger contract is beneficial for trade purposes.. and to be honest that's the best vehicle we have to turn into a contender.. worked in 2018. Of course the downside is that the contract is so big that the player himself becomes untradeable. But that's true mostly for guys that get injured or are injury prone.

OG is young and healthy. He's had some injuries, but more accident prone than anything (like being hit in the eye or having an appendectomy). OG has also had some big playoff moments which also increases someone's worth. That 3 pt shot against the Celtics. He hit a big shot against the Cavs before Lebronto happened.

OG was one of our most consistent offensive players in the playoffs last season.. which is sad and shows how bad both Siakam and Fred were.

I'm okay with $20M because that contract can get flipped. And as a franchise we have always had problems finding a decent SF. I'd say that's the toughest position to nail in the NBA.
Exactly, this team needs to play above the cap with decent tradeable contracts for good players. OG at 20M per is not a terrible contract for an all nba defence capable player that can knock down 3s and attack a close out. Maybe some of us are hoping he can be a solid 3rd option in a starting unit for a good team. That might be possible but a bit of a reach IMO. But a more effective version of present OG, with a little more offensive versatility is a very valuable player in todays NBA, especially at his age. I'm not sure if we should extend him now, it might be of more benefit to wait until the offseason, but we should retain him. He will be valuable as a player or as a part of a package that improves the team.

Tatum is the best player, so the rest almost doesn't matter. Siakam playing like a big man and not doing his James Harden impersonation is the second best player but for whatever reason the Raptors coaching staff prefers the latter, inferior version.

I like Brown as well but he has bit of the chip on the shoulder in a bad way and he goes hero ball too much. OG is probably both underrated and overrated in that his defensive abilities allow the Raptors to do a lot of stuff on that end other teams can't do but his offense would be better suited to playing the PF-spot to get him into mismatches (see Harris, Tobias).

Smart and Fred I consider a but of a wash, though, I'd rather have FVV only because Smart can take a lot off the table if he loses his mind in key moments.

            3 tiers:

            2) Brown, Siakam
            3) Smart, OG, FVV

Tatum and FVV aren't tradeable for Harden until later in the season, so that's moot.

              • a couple of writers picked OG as a breakout candidate in the ringer's pre-season survey.

                jonathan tjarks:
OG Anunoby, Raptors. If we shouldn’t have written off the Raptors after losing Kawhi Leonard, then we definitely shouldn’t write them off after losing Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol. Let’s not forget their best lineups in the playoffs were with Anunoby at the 5. He just signed with Klutch Sports, he’s playing for a new contract, and he’s finally playing at his natural position in the modern game. Sounds like a breakout season to me.
                dan devine:
OG Anunoby, Raptors.OG’s per-possession production last season evoked the statistical profile of players ranging from very solid starters to superstars. That, plus the ice in his veins that produced the bubble’s coldest game-winner, makes for a pretty intriguing package. He should get more opportunities to make plays this season, and I’m bullish on him continuing his development. He’s unlikely to suddenly turn into Kawhi Leonard or mirror Pascal Siakam’s All-NBA leap, but more production in a higher-usage role feels reasonable. If he can manage that while continuing to provide All-Defensive Team–caliber perimeter work, OG will become the kind of rising two-way wing every team in the league is desperate to find.
most of them picked al-farouq aminu for it last year

I have Siakam ahead of Brown because he is a better scorer while Brown is a better defender. We know which side of the ball teams consider more valuable.

The Raptors just played the Celtics in the playoffs 3 months ago and you still think Siakam is the better scorer? Brown can create his own shot off the dribble, he's a good 3 point shooter, can shoot from everywhere, great finisher. If the Raptors had Brown on their team instead of Siakam i'd like their chances a whole lot more this year.

Youre kind of ignoring all context here tbf. Siakam has to drive the offense as the first option, disrupt defenses and get his teammates going - hes in the Jason Tatum role. Brown played the 3rd option, get the ball and attack a shifting defense. Brown is a great on ball defender and individual scorer, he played a role that emphasized those strengths. In that role Siakam helped us win a championship. Now hes in a role that doesnt hide his struggles and it showed in the playoffs - where he also played uncharacteristically poorly. Passing and impact stats greatly favor Siakam. Youre fixating on one facet of one playoff series.

Not if Brown was the #1 option. Against Boston, defenses are entirely centered around stopping Tatum and Walker. Hayward also got a lot of attention.

He also wasn't that great in the Raps series. His defense on Siakam was very good but the Raps played into that - don't need to go over how badly Pascal was used in the series again.

                        • Sweet baby jesus Markelle Fultz just got $50 million for 3 years for anyone hoping OG would get significantly less than $20m/year.

Seems like players and teams are both ready to lock in, a lot of uncertainty ahead.

still have some capspace assuming norm cancels his player option... we should have around 30-35
