Agreed...if I'm the raps, I wouldn't be playing around with OG..just give him 18 million at 5 years and lock him up,bc u never know..he might turn into something special.
Yeah but if you think that, you can bet OG thinks that. So why would he take 5/90? Especially with free agency drying up next summer - OG might be one of the top targets next summer. Even a half decent offensive growth season could see him maxed out.

Robert Covington is probably the best comp to OG in terms of role/impact. A 3&D who can play 3/4/5 with elite D. RoCo is making $11-12M/yr.
      How about Otto Porter?

And Otto Porter’s contract was considered one of the most difficult one’s to move shortly thereafter. But hey, if you want to emulate the Wizards front office, there might be a front office position for you if Ernie Grunfeld gets another job.

        • Another good OG comp is Al Farouq Aminu, who makes $9M/yr.

Both Aminu and Covington are similar 3&D archetypes with as good or better defensive impact stats (PIPM) as OG.

Unless we’re expecting OG to transform into a reliable ball handler, that’s the market value vs. role we would be paying for or would need to replace OG with if we let him walk, or ideally sign & trade.

          • Because of OG's age he's not getting Al Farouq Aminu like contract. He's getting his $16-20M/year

We’re better off using him as a trade chip then, instead of loading our cap with another player that we “hope” will grow into their role vs. salary.

                Doubt that happens.

Unless it’s part of a superstar package, which is also unlikely.

This will be the core for forseeable future.

Yep, I know. And that’s what’s scary. The offense will be unwatchable for long stretches.

Well the pick should be good. Good thing they are in Tampa. This season can be a wash

Anyone hoping for us to have a good pick this year is going to be disappointed.

                          • Sometimes having a bigger contract is beneficial for trade purposes.. and to be honest that's the best vehicle we have to turn into a contender.. worked in 2018. Of course the downside is that the contract is so big that the player himself becomes untradeable. But that's true mostly for guys that get injured or are injury prone.

OG is young and healthy. He's had some injuries, but more accident prone than anything (like being hit in the eye or having an appendectomy). OG has also had some big playoff moments which also increases someone's worth. That 3 pt shot against the Celtics. He hit a big shot against the Cavs before Lebronto happened.

OG was one of our most consistent offensive players in the playoffs last season.. which is sad and shows how bad both Siakam and Fred were.

I'm okay with $20M because that contract can get flipped. And as a franchise we have always had problems finding a decent SF. I'd say that's the toughest position to nail in the NBA.

                            • Wouldn't Jaylen Brown be a good comparison for OG?

Yeah I was just thinking this. OG's probably about a year behind Brown in his development, hopefully this is a real breakout year where he gets consistent opportunity in terms of increased role & expectations.

Boston's got Tatum/Brown/Smart vs. Siakam/OG/Fred. Who ya got?
