Guys, Siakam had a crap game, yeah. He's going to be inconsistent like this. He's a young player. This is why he gets to be the backup this year, not a starter. He'll find consistency eventually. Same goes for Poeltl. Heck, Van Vleet looks the most ready of them, and I'm still glad he's a third stringer and not the primary backup (for various reasons).

Meanwhile, the Raps SL squad only lost because their bench is horrific. Take a gander at the plus-minus numbers for the team, the whole story is right there.

Every year, every month, every day, we complain about our ISO offence. So this game the team swung the ball around, got a whole bunch of open looks from 3 and bricked most of them. How many mid-range jump shots did we take? Count them on one hand. Almost everything was at the rim or from 3. Ball movement is great strategy in theory, shitty strategy when you lose?

The starters held their own. The bench (AKA scrubs highly unlikely to ever see an NBA court) got smoked.
You wanted to see those scrubs going ISO? lol. The 3-ball is high variance by nature and as the voice of reason (T-Rex) said it was only 1 summer league game.

Pretty sure no one in this thread has complained about the ball movement or shooting threes as a strategy.

But I do think it's funny that our two featured bigs took a total of 9 field goal attempts.

The bench was terrible but those who wanted Swanigan were proven right about him as a solid pickup. The guy keeps posting double doubles.

Summer league game that exposed the fact that our young players all have holes in their game, that would hurt the Raptors if they are planning to use them for longer stretches of the game.

We seem to be getting the borderline starter players in the drafts but never the star players going back to 2011 draft. This stuff is hurting us.
1.) You know the reason why right? they've been drafting in the 20's pretty much every year. They're actually pretty lucky that they're getting starting caliber players from where they've been drafting.

2.) All young players have holes in their game. Even the high draft picks ones. Seems like you're looking for the perfect player. There's no such thing.

2010 Ed Davis - Could have had Bledsoe, Bradley, Whiteside
2011 JV - Could have had Walker, Klay Thompson, Leonard, Butler, Thomas.
2012 TRoss- Could have had Drummond, Draymond Green.
2013 Didn't have a pick but missed out on Giannis.

So yeah missing on big names for borderline starters has set us back.

True, but it's a little disconcerting that our sophomores Pascal/Poeltl put up a combined 12/9 in 53 minutes vs rookie Swanigan's 13/11 in 26 minutes. Not to mention Pascal had six fouls in 22 minutes.

Whatever. I'm sure it won't matter anyway.

This Raptors summer league team is a microcosm of its big club issues.

Your best player Pascal Siakam got completely shut down by Caleb. Its one thing to show up during the season but you got to step up in the playoffs.

The whole team shot a measly 7 out of 35 from the 3 pointer. What a horrible waste.

So in essence this summer league team cannot shot 3 pointers. We got too many finesse type of players who got easily pushed around by heavy set players like Caleb and Stokes. The only big heavy set guy we have was Meeks and he couldn't defend for shit, too slow and lumbering.

It would have been wise for the Raptors to have gotten another pick and selected Caleb in the 2nd round if they could have. Dude plays hard like PJ Tucker and his tenacity is infectious to his team-mates. Lets all hope OG was worth it!
