Bradley Beal got traded for peanuts and Damian Lillard is about to be traded for peanutes. 2023 market is not 2019 market
2022 market: Rudy Gobert got traded for a haul. The Donovan Mitchell deal wasn't bad either. It just takes one fool GM to make a bull market.

And Beal's trade doesn't really count. He had a no-trade clause!

If Pascal comes back and as you're saying it's another Fred situation, then 100% he's not making all NBA.
Especially with Darko's perceived style. Pascal thrives in iso basketball.
There are two things to consider. They no longer care about positions. So you can have 15 guards make all-nba now. The other is you have to play a minimum of 65 games to qualify.

So Pascal typically plays 65+ games. Not every star does. So that helps him.

But the fact that positions don't matter hurts him.

I'd think it's likely he does not make it.. but if the Raptors have a better record than expected (say top 5 in the conference), and the media wants to vote for a Raptor to represent them, then it will likely be Pascal over anyone else on the team, unless Scottie takes a huge leap.

It also helped that both Rudy and Donovan had several years on their contract when moved. Raptors giving out shorter term deals might actually end up costing them. Those player options and trying to get value on term is likely back firing.

Even Bam got a 5 year deal when he was out of his rookie deal. Pascal got 4 though. If he had one more year, the offers would have looked a lot better than they have been.

          • It's kind of been alluded to here but, ummm....if things don't change, are we heading into an uncomfortable year with Siakam? Clearly he has been discussed in trades and appears to have said he will not re sign with another team. If he's back this year without signing an extension then it just means he is betting on himself to get the max next year. Now that can happen in the context of a good Raptors team but...doesn't feel like the best recipe for success. Think something has to change

Seems like it. You might just have to move on from him even if you lose the trade. Move on fully from the Nick, Fred and Pascal led team.

Or Pascal's team can stick to the loyalty narrative hoping that the fanbase wouldn't notice/or forget that it's all about the supermax.
He will have until the deadline to prove everyone wrong, be a good teammate, play hard and not follow Fred's example.

Assuming the Raptors are currently offering Pascal the max extension and he is waiting and see if he gets All-NBA, then that would be a sign right there of putting your individual situation ahead of the team. That will create a toxic situation all season long, with everybody (teammates, coach, fans, media, etc...) questioning his on-court decisions and selfishness, just like we just witnessed with Fred. I don't think Masai wants Bet-On-Yourself vibes repeating themselves coming out of training camp, which is probably why Pascal is being shopped hard.

Could be but I get the sense that he really likes Toronto and would prefer to win here and sure doesn't want to go to a team that's even more middling than we are. The premature dumping on Pascal is embarrassing for the fanbase.

Yup.. but then they are also getting really low ball offers for him too. They put themselves in a no-win situation.

Atlanta made the playoffs, we didn't. The year before we both lost in the 1st round. The year before that they made the ECF and we missed the playoffs.

Tell me how they are more middling than us?

They've been objectively better the past 3 seasons.

                        • If he doesnt sign the extension trade him for the best offer available. Lets not go thru this shot again

We should never have good players on our team is the obvious answer . I guess between Pascal gunning for the supermax or OG the normal max we will be done in for having good players on our team.

Seriously though, how is this different with other teams I wonder?

But how good are max players that miss the playoffs 2 out of the last 3 years? The answer is: not good enough.

Perhaps trading them for prospects and picks to take a chance on finding legit max players could be another team-building option.

And when those legit max players start playing for a max contract? Are we good with them creating a toxic situation and playing selfishly?

Is this just a normal thing experienced by all teams and we're just blowing it out of proportion or an actual phenomena that is specific to the Raptors?
