Spin is already a counter. His first move is to force to go middle. Defender takes middle away and Siakam counters it with a spin. His spin is way too fast, defenders know it's coming and can't do anything about it.
Exactly. Nobody heads towards the basket with a spin as your first move. lol. The spin comes as soon as he feels pressure. The devasting part of Siakam is that he is a gifted passer and he's getting better and better at finding the inevitable wide open 3, or hockey pass to the open 3.

    • In a year where we got Kawhi Leonard.. who would have thought that Pascal Siakam would have been the first Raptor to win the POW award?

I watched the game against SAC on their feed and the commentators were making light of him for spinning on literally every drive. They also had some fun at Kawhi's expense when someone fouled him hard saying they better make sure he's not injured.

The scouting report on Pascal will be out soon enough and players will start defending that spin move better. Hope he's got a counter ready.

        • In transition it may work, but in a post up situation it's too easy to bait him into that spin and be waiting for it.

          • Pascal Siakam wouldn't have been able to do this with Demar on the team. Literally everyone is happy when Siakam is dribbling the ball because they know he'll find them.

Hes usually faster than any big they put on him and we already have seen him post up smaller players. So even if they throw the bait at him, they won't be able to reel him in quickly.

A guy who could defend him well would be Kawhi or a Lebron @ 100% effort (name a couple that I can think of quickly).

True enough. That team impressed me though. They have a pretty good talent in Fox and there are some decent role players around him. A way to go still obviously.

Well we'll never know that for sure and no point in bringing Demar into this. But that's why having your stars to be efficient and able to play offball is important: it gives more possessions and chances for role players to handle the ball

It's not easy with the Rap's spacing. Waiting to trap his spin requires a help defender. Who are you leaving open in the corner? Danny Green? OG? Please do.

And those guys will be defending Kawhi.

It worked in half-court sets, with Lowry as the screener in a reverse pick & roll. If teams have to start game-planning for Pascal, we're in a great place.

Naw, we absolutely know all the space with the starting unit is because JV/Ibaka have been separated and DeMar's not there, while the space with the bench is because Poletl's not there. This doesn't happen for 48 mins a game if DD and Poeltl are in the rotation instead of Green and Kawhi - that's facts, not shade.

Yeah, this is like when the Warriors realized that Draymond could play center. If Pascal's play is sustainable, it gets the team to another level.
