The organization is firmly behind Pascal as the number one guy, just like they were with DeMar. So in that sense if he can't live up to that responsibility over the next couple of years and a trade for a player that can presents itself then sure his days could be numbered.

Really any player that doesn't perform up to the amount of money they make is at risk of being moved. Heck even players who are performing get traded sometimes.....

A lot of armchair criticism, a little too much on a player who consistently played great defense and still put up 21 points, and 7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in an admittedly off year.

Not just back to normal, Siakam is going to have other guys who can defend at a high level around him and they will likely get the tougher defensive assignment. This should prove allow Pascal to focus more on offense and have more energy for those end of game plays.

The team plan is to hold other teams to 80 points per game with our switch everything 7ft wingspan lineups so who needs points anyhow.......

That's an underrated point. Raptors aggressive defensive schemes require an extreme amount of energy, and Pascal is the middle linebacker and free safety. He's a freak athlete, for sure, but hopefully they don't overdo it and run him into the ground like they did last season.

In one recent interview, Pascal mentioned that he noticed the shoulder problem earlier in the year, but they let him play through it. Then, when they were resting other key guys (OG, FVV, Lowry), they had Pascal playing 40 minutes on a back-to-back on the road while he was still recovering from Covid. And we were clearly in tank mode. WTF was that all about? That's Thibs-like minutes management.

Yeah I think this is true for all of Fred, Siakam, and OG - been talking about expectations re: them stepping up into bigger offensive roles for all three, and all three have been super high output defensive guys. They did that as role players around higher scoring core players in the past. That will have to shift now, unless you want to keep having gassed guys trying to win games on offence in the clutch. Some of these young guys with defensive potential being brought in are going to have to take some of the workload through the game and some of the Fred/Siakam/OG assignments are going to have to be on secondary players with spot assignments to primary players at key points. Exactly how Kawhi and Lowry were used, basically. Big question mark will be which of the younger guys are ready and able to contribute consistently defensively to help spread out that workload.

Yeah, it was like they had some sort of understanding with Silver that their season was lost due to playing in Tampa and if they put at least one core piece out there every night they wouldn't get fined for resting players.

Barnes and Precious would be the obvious choices to take the tough assignments off Pascal's hands. Hopefully it translates to better offense for Pasca. I mean I don't want to see him go the way of Beal or Dame where he just doesn't give a crap about playing D, and I don't think that's in his nature, but you can't expect Siakam to be the number one scoring option while defending the toughest forward on the other end as well.

Reminds me of this one game Nurse wanted Siakam as the primary defender on Giannis, despite OG active and healthy. It was the year after Kawhi left, marquee regular season game vs the Bucks. Everyone wanting Pascal to be Kawhi. Someone asked Nurse pre-game about that defensive assignment (while also having Siakam carry most of the offensive possessions, including ball-handling and being the go-to on offence) and Nurse said half-joking half-serious: "Oh he's young, he can handle it"

We lost the game. Pascal did a good job on Giannis defensively, but his offence (understandably) was affected.
