I don't think people were pissed off because Sterner was considered a brilliant assistant. People were pissed off because:
a) Sterner was an awesome guy and a fun personality, as close as we have to a meme legend
b) it seemed like the assistants were being scapegoated for the failures of the head coach

That's why I said it was the half time interviews. But yeah, there was definitely a feeling here and even from some analysts that Masai was scapegoating assistants for playoff failures especially after there were dismissals 2 offseasons in a row.

We did have a thread grading personnel including assistant coaches a few years back. I believe right around the time Stack was hired, a move which was met with derision by a few here.
