A bit of schadenfreude - but wouldn't it be something if the Lakers spent all year hyping up the possibility of having two superstars join the team this offseason, and not a single one signs with them?
And you think the Raptors forum got ornery at times

That happens often to the Lakers. Its LA, they’re connected to every big free agent every year.

People still think market matters. It rarely does. Money (which is always better with your current team), winning, co workers, family comfort..all these things rank ahead of "drooool new York & LA"

They don’t have to do anything big this off-season because they already know that Kawhi is coming next year.
If the Spurs really do resist the Kawhi-LAL deal option, and with George signing elsewhere the Lakers grab Cousins to go with LBJ - I wonder if the Lakers would trade for DeMar using their bevy of picks/prospects if the Raps take Deng's salary. Would be a questionable fit - but the Lakers don't seem too worried about fit - their stated intention is landing big stars, not building a good team, and DeMar fits that mold. And it would be nice to see DeMar head to LA to be closer to family (which is part of the reason behind my previous LAC suggestion as well).
This is an excellent example of why you have to take a risk and swing for the fences sometimes. The Thunder caught some heat for gambling on a one-year rental, but now they get Paul George for a couple more years.
Same situation applies to Kawhi except with the added uncertainty of the injury.
If we really believe that this is a first class organization and that our five years of winning culture matters, we should be going hard after Kawhi.
George staying in OKC...could still be a short-term deal, but very interesting to see how this affects Lakers/LeBron given how a year ago he was seen as a sure thing to head to LA
