I don't know man, Doug McDermott just got 3 years, 22 million from Indiana
McBuckets can shoot at an elite level, which Indiana needs badly. What does Ilyasova do at an elite level, other than make you wish it was three years ago when he was still good?

Also: Jerami Grant gets 27m for three years from OKC, which seems like an overpay but with OKC locking themselves after the PG13 signing I guess it's not the worst?

    • PG13's deal is for 4 years $137M

Most late first round picks fall under that category. Nothing to worry about.
Sure. Except for #27 Siakam, #20 OG and #20 Wright, the first two being our most versatile defenders and looking more and more like keepers during the rebuild. Masai drafts well late in the draft (Bruno being the exception), late picks have value in his hands. I like the kid he picked up undrafted. May turn into nothing, but with our solid player development program hopefully he can contribute one day somehow.

Dan wasn't being sarcastic. Most late 1sts are legitimately wasted by other teams on players that didn't even have 1/2 of Bruno's potential, as unlikely as it was. They don't even turn up as rotation players. Bruno didn't either, but Bruno's potential may have been as a star.

I'd argue if you know you're gonna hit on like every pick you get, which Masai has, may as well shoot for the moon every once in a while.

              • I think my point is that Masai is a freaking magician with late picks, and he still grabs a DeAndre Daniels and Bruno once in a while. The expected value for non-lotto picks is somewhere between lifetime bench player and never plays in the NBA. If you make enough selections from 20 on down, you are definitely going to miss on some picks, 100%.

                    • Phoenix spending all their money on Ariza. FVV should get a cheapo deal with Toronto now (hopefully)

                      • Damn, losing Ariza is a big blow to Houston, do they have any cap space to try and replace him?

                        • Alex Kennedy made an excellent point on Twitter, saying that the players all know that most teams don't have cap space so they're all pushing for contracts right away before the money dries up and it's just exception salaries left.

Which helps us because the sooner teams run out of cap, the sooner they'll turn to trading to improve their rosters. I fully expect Ibaka to be gone by the end of the month.

They'll have their tax payer mid level. They still need to resign Capela though. Not sure how much tax they want to spend.

I could see an active trade market in December. Free agents may resign with their former team to get some money on a short deal and then look to be moved in December in a trade to the team of their choice. Right now S&T is too difficult with so many teams being tax teams or way over the cap.
