Of the two players who's names have come up; I'd much prefer trying to grab Butler but if Kawhi is even 80% of what he was pre-injury ... if there's a chance at him; you go for it BUT the flight risk mixed with the mystery injury means that you absolutely have to not be giving up too much for him.
Ideally (for me), it's the package listed above."My biggest concern as a coach is to not confuse winning with progress." - Steve Kerr
"If it's unacceptable in defeat, it's unacceptable in victory." - Jeff Van Gundy

The 24 hour news cycle phenomena of a Khawi Leonard trade to Toronto has pretty much run its course. So with each passing day its looking more and more like the Raptors are going to take one more crack at it with the same crew.
A combination of circumstances have choked off "basketball" trades that may or may not have been acted upon by the GM for his stash of win now players seemingly on the block.
1) Out west the Warriors by adding another star level player to further separate themselves from the pack have made for a slow to a dead market for win now player trades in the Western Conference.
2) In the East with the departure of Lebron to the West ...the organizational belief that the single impediment to the Raps advancing beyond a series with Cleveland is now gone and might have put the brakes on moves post Lebrons move.
3) Teams with cap space are keeping their powder dry right now as there are a lot of players hitting FA's next year that are worth waiting for. Irving... Butler......Boogie ...Kemba... Tobias Harris are a few listed here.. but there are more.
4) With 25% of the NBA's 30 teams in tank mode ... trading for players to help you win is not what they want to do. Every loss is key and adding players that actually help you win isn't happening.
Happy or sad about the current state of affairs it is what it is right now. I think I am now resigned to the reality that the band is coming back. With Lebron gone the East is wide open. At worst the Raps are a top 3 team in the East. So what can be done to add something to the current mix ?
At present they have 14 bodies under contract with Bebe and Brown in limbo somewhere. That leaves a roster spot open that could be filled using the taxpayer exception.
So what position(s) do you go after...with the ~5M$ at your disposal
A bigger two way wing for insurance if OG is hobbled ? A James Johnson type ?
A smaller wing who has the ability to fill it up from 3 ? A Korver/Reddick/Bellinelli type ?
Another 4 who can provide defensive rebounding (cuz they still suck bad on the defensive boards when JV sits down) ?
I'd personally go for the rebounding at the 4 but you can never have enough 3 point shooters...If it drags on long enough maybe they can get Wayne Ellington and David West in on one year deals. Maybe not.
Any other ideas where the money is going to be invested in and on ?There's no such thing as a 2nd round bust.

Dog days of summer, I guess...
If you trace back the origin of those articles who are just repeating the same horsecrap.
For the 2nd time ESPN published an article saying that it would make sense for the raptors to go all in on Kawhi. And from that one person quoted one person who got quoted by another person, and we have ourselves a crazy Broken telephone game.
Not one executive, not one agent, not one player, no one family member, not even the infamous "sources" is quoted.
It made up trade proposal gone viral because they have nothing to talk about because Spurs are being assholes on purpose.
I wish it was true, I've been saying this for 2 months, which is why i'm sure its not, been following kawhi news just for that reason, and it's just a Zach lowe trade proposal gone viral.

So not sure if it was Magoon or InThePaint who lobbed one up that Philly is prolly more hype than substance this year BUT as FA slowly grinds to a close with only a few RFA's left (who are likely to reup with their own teams) and with the likelihood that the Spurs aren't trading Leonard to Philly .... Is it talking smack or talking smart to say that the Raps are going to be better than the Hinkies when the season starts in October ?
Heres a few reasons from this corner of the cheap seats to say that its not smack but smart to say that the Raps would beat the Hinkies in a series.
1. Joel Embiid is perennially out of shape. Yep I said it. Dudes fat. Along with being fat he is also brittle and plays 30 minutes a game not because the Hinkies are being cautious.. its that's all the lard ass can play...Look this isn't new news. When he was rehabbing from his two surgeries the guys diet was crap. The Hinkies brass sent over a nutritionist to help and whoever it was made a bit of an impact and he got better at monitoring his diet... but all things considered...he still lumbers up and down the court like a wounded water buffalo. JV as much as he gets slagged for being slow can easilty stay with this guy. On the court. Not on twitter where Joel baby is very very good.
2. Even though they got JJ back and took on Wilson Chandler..... most of the 3 point shooting left the building. Covington you say. yeah. well.. he is as streaky as JR Smith.. but JR played with Lebron.
3. Redshirt ROY Ben Simmons is still in search of a jimmy. Will he ever find one.. Like ever ? I get position-less ball but your PG still has to have a shot beyond 10 feet.
4. Philly police are still on high alert to locate Markel Fultz's lost jump shot. All smack aside he has been working out with a shot doctor this summer but until he shows one on the court .. in an NBA game.. against starters ... late in the shot clock all bets are off.
5. Philly made a huge run last year to take the 3rd seed or simply fulfill Lebrons plan to dump the 3rd seed but they did it against the poor.. the lame.. the tankers of the East. They beat the heat but got dusted by the Chowderheads. Cleansed like eating cabbge soup for a week. A lot of guys who carry big media reps got exposed. Embiid got outplayed by Aaron Baynes. Yeah that Aaron Baynes. JV can match what Baynes did. Simmons got punked by a Morris twin.. OG can match that. Fultz never got off the bench.
Philly has a way to go yet. There's no such thing as a 2nd round bust.

Good natured jousting aside ....Look forward to the upcoming debates on why Philly and Chowder invincibility is myth not reality. There's no such thing as a 2nd round bust.
