C'mon dude lets not do this step by step....how much? and if that happens what are we looking at in cap space for that summer? Sorry, I know I'm using you as a source of information, but DanH isn't responding.

      • If Ujiri obtains Kawhi, I highly doubt that Ujiri would just stop there. I am sure there would be successive moves after that.

It would be a great get, but you have to hope for a Paul George scenario
I'd be happy if he just played this season without sulking or refusing to suit up. Nothing leads me to believe that he prioritizes winning over the destination he wants to be playing in. If he cared about winning he could have stayed with the Spurs whom area threat to go to the finals every year when healthy.

          • Interesting though that not any of the usual sources on twitter picked up this rumor.

I guess we will find out soon enough

            • Though the timing of this and Demar deleting his IG pics are eerily coincidental

Windhorst and Lowe talking about it is significant enough. Shams and Woj don't traffic as much in rumors this time of the year as they do in finished deals. If they report it, we should get REALLY excited, but them not reporting it doesn't mean it isn't a real rumor.

                • Lowe’s was just just a hypothetical column reviewing possible trades

                  • Windhorst’s is a legit rumour, but who knows if it’s SA just trying to get better offers from Phili

Nah, on a podcast he said something about it too.

It would suck to trade assets for a one year rental though. That’s the thing that gives me pause
For sure. A Kawhi trade leans pretty hard towards the risk of this being a one year play. What would make that acceptable are the facts that, a) this team has hit a pretty clear ceiling and if you have a chance to break through it, you've got to take it when the chance is there, and b) MU knows the ceiling and tied the core into a short window that expires in a year after this next season anyway. If his contingency plan has always been to reload (in some fashion) in 2 years, all he's losing here is 1 season of "let's see what we can do with these guys" before moving on. Do you give up that one extra season for a shot at a year with Kawhi where you might get a re-sign? I think you have to.

But if you're really worried about the rental angle than you go hard after Jimmy Butler instead of Kawhi.

Or you stand pat and the Raptors have another nice regular season, probably EC top 2 seed, a nice playoff run in the spring. Thing is, they've accomplished all that already. You're not going to move forward from here without taking a risk - which by definition may not work out for you.

Woj definitely have the most reliable insiders for each team. Though I am always so impressed that Ujiri keep his cards closed to his vest. The dynamics is what makes the offseason, before the trade deadline and draft night so exciting more than the season and playoffs itself.

Nice to be a fan of this game

Also not helped by the fact that San Antonio and Toronto both run pretty tight ships. So we really won't have much smoke blowing until a deal is really close/done.

                            • To me the question mark isn't the 1 year rental thing. That's something you can't predict and the risk you take. And even if it was 1 year in hindsight there should be little regret because as s.r. said, this core has a small window anyways we might as well dramatically increase our chances at a finals in 2019.

So that's not my worry. My worry is kawhi himself. Haven't heard nary a word out of him in months but really bad vibes about his uncle and group he rolls with. I would need assurances before going any further dude is going to report to training camp and even then do it in a positive manner. Cause this still has a chance of blowing up in the face of whatever team trades for him.

                                Hey! No one asked me!

To match the salary the Raps are sending out there, the Spurs need to send out between 26M and 40M in salaries. Kawhi makes just above 20M.
Next summer will be a great summer to have cap space, especially for a team that has struggled to bring in free agents in the past.
