          • Can someone please explain to me why the Raptors have 40 million cap holds for 2018/2019? I don't get it.

            • Where did you get that from?

Cap holds are meaningless for the Raptors anyway, there's no way they end up with cap space.

I suspect the cap hold total comes from the TPEs, Bebe, FVV, Brown, Miller and the MLE. Again, though, it's meaningless this summer.

                It's from this site: https://earlybirdrights.com/2018/06/...eason-preview/

TPE & MLE are part of it?

Yeah, exceptions count towards the cap until they are renounced. Doesn't impact tax calc though.

                    Didn't know that. Thx!

As you are the expert on this stuff I've another question about cap space. I checked the numbers on two other sites:

One (http://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/2018/) doesn't include neither the free agent cap holds nor the TPE/MLE.
The other (http://www.shamsports.com/capulator) includes the free agent cap holds, but not the TPE/MLE

So I have 3 sites and each lists a different cap space. Which is the right one?
I guess it's Spotrac, because the Raptors team salary is over the cap max. So cap holds (+ TPE/MLE) are not included?

When in doubt, Spotrac is always wrong. I despise that site, they just aggregate numbers from other sites that do the legwork to get the salary info and then leech clicks away from them.

But keep in mind that cap holds (both free agent and exception holds) can be denounced at any time. So all of them are right to some degree. It just depends how you approach the concept of cap space - is it the minimum available, the maximum available? Are you keeping your free agents or not? Are you going to try to operate over the cap or below (there are benefits to both)?

If you want the full accounting of cap holds, the approach you first posted is technically correct. But there is a lot of flexibility in which cap holds you actually apply to the cap.

                        • Could we absorb Faried’s contract for our TPE’s to get the 14th pick from Denver?

Nope. Our biggest TPE is just under $12M. Faried makes just over $12M.

But even if we could, we're deep in the tax and wouldn't be willing to pay the something like $32M in taxes that would come just from Faried's contract, just for a mid-first rounder.

                            • Think we will use the TPE’s?

Maybe to help off load Norm's contract. Can bring back a larger contract in a trade, assuming Masai wants to deal Norm before/during the draft.

But, we're paying a lot of tax if we bring the band back. So something will have to give.. and the TPE is only really useful if we want to increase our payroll not decrease it.
