Maybe we're arguing and agreeing at the same time. Yeah, too many people prefered the puff pieces.

The best articles are those by writers who both know basketball and are actually objective (Lowe, Pelton, etc), even if they say stuff we may not want to hear. Vantage Sports a few years ago was great.
But Zach Lowe has written and talked a ton about us the past few years.

This article included the fundamental question about our core:

If the Raptors lose early in the playoffs again, they will face a simple question: Is this core good enough that improvement from the players on hand is all they need to approach Cleveland's level?
    http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/1...ng-talent-next

This one was more critical (and more after the fact):

    http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/1...s-nba-playoffs

If a team is winning, writers almost always focus on positives during the season, lest they risk backlash or lose access.

It's only during brief playoff post-mortems where they can show how the regular season formula failed, because those factors are supported by recent concrete evidence.

We on the forums have been saying the same things for years because we don't have those issues.

Anyway it's great to see some laudatory articles. Hope we can keep this momentum going strong all the way through into the playoffs.

lol. Yeah, it seems like I'm always debating you and yet agreeing with you. That means both of us were right (and wrong).

My original point was that complimentary articles about the franchise didn't just start this season and that fans don't pay as much attention to the nice words, but more so when they feel we've been slighted. Bill Simmons was especially adept at tweaking the Raptor fan base in particular, for troll clicks.

Articles, bloggers etc... have been steadily documenting the Raps rise since that unexpected turnaround season in 2014. Sure, some of those articles highlighted a few caveats, but a lot of those criticisms turned out to be totally justified.

But there is nothing wrong with trashing our D if/when it is valid. Or trashing anything else. I guess some people only want to read 100% puff pieces, which is cool.

2016: Here's a great puff piece by NBA.com no less........ which was utterly wrong. But I'm sure a lot of Raptor fans ate it up.

    lol.

Credit too should go to Dwane Casey, who has embraced a style that is not his own.

Tom Ziller ain't waiting for the playoffs to agree with me. I bolded the pertinent statement in the quote.

As I wrote in my updated NBA playoff projections on Wednesday, the Raptors are eminently competent and a true joy to watch. On closer inspection, they are even more than competent. They are freaking good. This is the best Raptors team ever, better than the 56-win version from 2015-16 and last season's similar edition.

Those articles you posted seemed to agree with my position. 2 kinda trashed our D. Only one really pointed out the warning signs of our ex-style of play, but also pointing out one reason we didn't pass much was because we weren't good passers (where did I hear that before?)

The "Raptors play an antiquated style" and "will it keep working in the playoffs" was the correct narrative, but some fans covered their ears until Masai finally said 'uncle' and admitted it.

Here are just a few articles. I don't see how any objective Raptor fan can look at these as not being insightful, especially in hindsight. I mean, I can't remember every single article and the older ones are hard to Google, but unless you take offense to the slightest indirect criticism (like Dwane Casey often does), then the team is getting their fair share of praise.

I was thinking of starting a thread called "Everything This Team is Special" or the "Official We're Good Thread", but this one will suffice.
Don't jinx it, man. lol. Jinx threads are the rage this season on this board.

I have to disagree. First of all, can you find any of these "insightful articles"? Because most of the non-puff pieces that discussed our offence were more in the vein of "Raptors play an antiquated style, but somehow make it work". Granted the "will it keep working in the playoffs?" question was asked in a number of them. It was our defence that got trashed on numerous occasions,
The "Raptors play an antiquated style" and "will it keep working in the playoffs" was the correct narrative, but some fans covered their ears until Masai finally said 'uncle' and admitted it.

Longest losing streak for the season is 2 games. We have a 6 game win streak and two 4 game win streaks (one active), plus three 2-game win streaks to outweigh the two 2-game losing streaks we've had. Team definitely knows how to bounce back from bad play.
A critical feature of good teams.

Have we ever consistently beaten teams by these kinds of margins?

In that newer article (Pelton?) in the OG thread, we're referred to as "contenders".
