      • THE DS REPORT... Just two consonants to the right of what it might be. D-2.

So the swap meet is now over for another year and with it comes the end of an era in Raptors ball with the departure of Jonas Valancuinas to Beal Street. Always a polarizing player for the fan base who some thought never got a chance and who some thought should never be given a chance. Regardless of where you line up on JV....its a sad day .... A tip of the hat to JV. How could anyone in Canada not like a multi millionaire ice fisherman.

So Ujiri made sure his helmet was buttoned up and his cup was on straight and made his move. He is flat out going for it. Gasol , who in what might be his last kick at the championship makes the Raptors a better team for this playoff run. He is a better passer than JV was and has a better jump shot. He can get boards and he is tough enough. He is a shade more mobile. Mark Gasol fixes the issue of who is the second option. He is big time. We are going to miss JV but for this iteration of the Raptors the future is right now. They still have speed with Pascal and Norm and OG. They have a power game inside with Leonard and Gasol. Their 3 point shooting got a little better with Gasol as well as he is around 35%. The Raps are ready for a run... Still think Ujiri is going to fill one of those open roster spots with another experienced 3 point shooter who comes off the bench. The Raps are locked and loaded with a very very good 8 or 9 man playoff rotation. Gasol/Siakam/Ibaka are the bigs....Leonard/Green/Powell and OG are on the wings... and Kyle and Freddy will handle the ball.

Elton Brand was also busy at the deadline spending most of his inheritance. Philly too is in win now mode but with a younger core than the other contenders. Embiid, Simmons, Butler, Harris and Reddick should scare the shit out of you. And those 5 do. Its the rest of the guys named Moe off the bench which makes Philly vulnerable and that they seem to be starting out with a whole new team from 4 through 11. Philly must be passing out name tags to introduce all the players in the dressing room to each other. Thats an awful lot of bodies coming in. Philly has a very very good starting 5.. after that.. its a bunch of guys named Moe. In the playoffs they will go 8 deep. They are better than they were after the Raps beat them at home but the achilles heel is that short bench.

The Bucks must have some baseball guys in their front office. Just like baseball guys know you can't have enough pitching so too in todays NBA you just can't have too much 3 point shooting. The Bucks added another 3 point shooter to the team in Mirotic. The Bucks are ready for the playoffs. When.. not if.. but when teams start to double the Alphabet or even ratchet it up to doubling and hedging a guy into the gap to really pressure him into giving it up they are confident they now have enough shooting to punish teams for that. Mirotic, Bledsoe, Middleton, Brogdon Illyasova and DJ Wilson have made that shot all regular season long. But the playoffs are a different animal. No one in that crew has shone noticeably in the post season as most of them have very little playoff time on their resumes. Thats the Bucks achilles heel. If those guys make their shots over 3 series.. they are going to be really hard to beat...but when the magic of NBA refereeing delivers those inexplicably weird playoff whistles or the snipers inexplicably miss shots they usually make under playoff pressure the Bucks are beatable in a 7 gamer.

The Chowders like their team as is. Who wouldn't and as a result they didn't do anything at the deadline. They have a two headed monster at the 5 with the bulk of baynes and the mobility of Horford. They sport some good wings with Tatum and Brown and Hayward, have a hard ass swing man defender in Smart and a premier scoring ballhandler in Irving. But 55 games in they are still doing stops and starts on offence. Its not flowing as well as it could be despite the presence of genius on the sidelines. Unless there is an epiphany on offence expect playoff crunch time offence to be Irving iso's. With Embiid, Gasol/Ibalka and Giannas at the rim in the playoffs its going to be very very hard for Irving to win games all by himself on a consistent basis. Kyrie will steal a game or two for the Chowders over the course of the playoffs but Boston doesn't seem to have an experienced second option. Horford is not a playmaker who can get his own shot. Tatum is good but so far the only time he took the shot for the win.. Irving just about shit his pants and stormed off the court. Tatum prolly won't see something called for him in the post season after that diva move by Kyrie.. Yes its Irvings team and the Chowders will go as far as his one on one crunch time skills will take them.

Going to be the best playoff series in the East in a decade or more as these 4 teams are really really good.

        Bucks should be the favourites.
Its neck and neck between the Hinkies and the Raps with a slight edge to the Raps for their better 6 through 9 bench unit and Leonards ability to make Simmons turn it over to the tune of 5 or 6 times a game.
The Chowders are a hair behind the Hinks and Raps...

        ECF... Raps vs Bucks.

Yes.. the East is top heavy.. but after all the years of whining about how weak the "L"east is... this year makes up for it....The big 4 teams are seriously bad ass teams. OKC ? Portland ? Houston ? Utah ? Nice to Good .. but not fear insipiring....

Raps and Bucks and Hinkies and Chowders are both talanted and physically tough teams to play....They are the pro version of the glory days of the BIG EAST....

If you like basketball.. No quarter given and none expected hard ass tough skilled basketball... the East playoffs from the semis on is going to be fan fucking tastic....

I wouldn't discount Indy. The Pacers remaining schedule isn't that tough and they are finding ways to win without Oladipo. The Celtics are about to end an easy run through the schedule and they still have to go out West. For all the big 4 talk, you could easily have Boston/Philly as the 4/5 seeds in the first round.

                • Andrew Sharp.. ever the Raptor hater pens this in the post trade deadline wrap ups....Andrew is a lifelonger wizards fan and has the Raps as Losers in his view... Winner in his view also include the Knicks and Pelicans.. who look like they are going south faster than sinners at a baptist revival.

For context..Andrew has been fired by both ESPN and Grantland in the last couple years....

                  TORONTO RAPTORS
Marc Gasol helps, but he's lost a step defensively, and it's not even clear he'd be part of the best Toronto lineup in the playoffs. Meanwhile, in the past three months, the Raptors have gone from the clear favorites in the East to arguably the least imposing playoff team of the big four (Boston, Philly, Milwaukee, Toronto). I'm not sure what Masai Ujiri could have done to change that reality, but in any case, the Raptors were on the outside looking as most of their rivals got better.

Big picture: Kyle Lowry has been declining for months, the chemistry between Lowry and Kawhi Leonard still hasn't materialized, Pascal Siakam is a great complementary player but probably not someone who can anchor a new era next season, and the Clippers just cleared an obscene amount of cap space for this summer. Toronto could absolutely make the Finals a few months from now, but this was not a great week.

I would love it if Indy could hang on to get to the 3 seed.. but they have this stretch of games in March that will likely sewer them...big time teams.. most on the road....I think they go 3 and 8 or 4 and 7... and settle into the 5 seed...

Gulp. Yeah that's a tough friggin stretch.

It'd be so amazing if Boston and Philly had to kill each other in the first round. GO INDY! FIND A WAY!!!

I just looked at the Raps remaining schedule in detail for the first time yesterday. That's truly the easiest extended stretch of games I've ever seen in the NBA. Wow. Total cake-walk. Wonder what that'll mean... Will that help Gasol's integration into the lineup? Will our sets we've been practicing be more easily tested on weaker competition.. allowing us to ease into the post season? Will we be deluded about our own strength going into the playoffs, having not faced stiff competition from the better part of February 2019 onward? Will it give us the chance to rest a reasonable amount and go into the post healthy?

                      WHAT WILL HAPPEN!?!?!?!

                      ...I'm cool. I'm chill.

                        I love to predict ..
But its a pretty safe bet that the Raps arre going to finish 1 or 2....prolly 2.... its just math...
                        How so Demo ?

They are currently 40up and 16 down and will look to land at 43 and 16 by the ASG. Not such a tough call as the three games left are against the tanking Knicks.. .the reeling Whiz and the scrapy Nets who are are without Levert and Dinwiddie for a while longer... 2 of them are at home. 3 and 0 isn't a lock of course.. but you have to like the Raps chances to run the table to the ASG.

So that leaves them 23 games... the schedule is liberally sprinkled with teams like the Whiz.. Knicks.. Bulls .. Orlando...as you pointed out and there are only 2 back to backs.... Say they go a pedestrian 16 and 7.. which is win % of 700 which is what they have been doing all year long . AND its against some pretty wimpy clubs.. Team Panzer so to speak... and it means they land at 59 wins.

To catch them if they hang 59 on the board.....
The Celtics have to go.. 25 and 2 and the Hinkies have to go 26 and 2.
                        Not happening..

I too pray for a redux of Hoosiers....
If Indy could find a way to stay in the 3 hole... it would be fantastic to watch the Chowders and Hinkies kill each other in round 1.

                          • Moving to the West my sleeper playoff team is OKC. We all know about Westbrook, the difference maker will be Paul George who has become a 3 pt machine. In his last 10 games he is averaging 5.4 made 3's per contest at a 48.6% clip. His season avg. is 40.8%. The team is 9-1 over that span and currently sit 3rd in the ultra-competitive Western Conference, 2 games behind 2nd place Denver and 2 games ahead of 4th place Portland. If they finish 2nd, OKC will be guaranteed at least 2 rounds with home court advantage. Will be fun to watch!

                            • Since the GSW are 100%, no discussion lock to make and win the NBA finals, I want Vegas to give me 25 to 1 odds of them not winning it all this year and 100 to 1 they won't make the finals.
