I've posted it more than a few times but one man can't do the job of 3 guys in today's NBA. You can't be a full-time head coach, full-time GM and full-time president. I bet each of those guys puts in somewhere between 12-15 hours/day at work. Likely more on a regular basis. And, not only that, but these are super high-stress jobs and, while you may not be working 24/7, you are on call 24/7/365. There's a huge physical and mental cost to pay in those jobs.
That, and theres also the conflicting nature of the roles. Stan van the coach was trying to save his job in that one playoff push. Stan van the president should be thinking long term.

If the Clippers success is any indication, Detroit should have dumped Drummond and kept Harris & Bradley. They'd have less star power (depending what they could trade Drummond for) but probably a better team.

I mean they've been trying to build a team around Reggie Jackson and Andre Drummond, which is more or less a waste of time. Blake Griffin doesn't help.

Yeah... the Pistons after an early season burst are settling into what they were last year.....a team that needs a serious change and upgrade of personnel.

Dumars drafted Drummond.. he is long gone
SVG got Griffin and signed up for Reggie Jacksson.... and he too is gone...

Case inherits a project .... he might turn it around.. but its tough to make chicken soup with chicken shit....

The Griffin era in Motown is going to haunt the Pistons like the Billy King trade has haunted the Nets for a while.

        • See Jimmy Butler is stirring the pot in Philly on how he is being utilized in Brett Browns offence.

If the bloom is off the rose already Philly that was a hell of a price to pay....
Jimmy is not helping his cause for that monster deal either....

The timing is odd. After recovering somewhat from the self inflicted Butler wound the Pups were only a couple games out from their goal of a repeat playoff appearance....

And the leading Candidate to take on the coaching duties....is the highly successful Mayor Fred Hoiberg. Yes he of the 115 win and 155 loss performance that got him bounced out of Chicago.

He is a good friend of the Pups owner though..so there’s that. Maybe being a coaching genius isn’t as high on the list in Minny as you might think.

Assistant coach Andy Greer is available. We should grab him ASAP.

Seems like the timing was more a business decision than basketball one. From what I've read, the team was worried about season ticket renewals and fan apathy. Also sounds like he clashed with the business operations side of the team, which isn't really good when you're supposed to be upper management.

You know, you look at this situation and it makes you realize how fortunate we are with competent owners now in MLSE who know what they are doing.

                  • So here are few things that are going to be less prediction than observing the obvious.

There are 5 (five) really good teams in the East. You know who they are.

There are 5 teams busting hump to get the 6 through 8 slots. My call is they are comprised of the Heat, Charlotte, Nets, Pistons and Whiz. Three of those teams are going to be really happy they get to the post season... which will soon be tempered in the cold light of day that they are playing teams 1 through 3 and they don't really have a snowballs chance in hell of beating them in round 1 unless someone finds a way to spike water bottles with barbiturates.

While that's sobering for the 6 though 8 crowd even more so is the reality that of the big 5 ....two teams .. the ones who finish 4th and 5th .... are going to have a tong war just to get out of round 1.

Looks like the Raps and Deer are pretty solid bets to to finish in the top 3.
In the mix of 3 to 5 are the Pacers ... Hinkies and Chowderheads....

                    Here is the prediction segment....

For sure I think the Hinks finish either 4 or 5....
Their opponents in round 1 will be... either of the Chowders or Pacers.....and my bet is the Chowders....

                    • So yet another look ahead accompanied by a few SWAG's (scientific wild ass guess)

If your a decent team in the western conference its a great time to be alive... There are 7 teams already in playoff mode from 8 to 14 in the West....only the rumblin bumblin stumbin Suns are out of it. I think Utah is the team that makes it and catches one of the Lakers, Clippers or Trailblazers.... The Spurs/Thunder/Rockets .. look to make the dance as of now along with the Warriors and Nuggets.

Down East.... The Raps are looking pretty good. They have only 2 B2B in the next 30 days till the ASG. The schedule insn't a cake walk.. but as long as the Raps are seeing 35% shooting from the arc they are going to be hard to beat... and they get JV back before the ASG at some point and will continue to pick up speed and thumping power as they stay on a roll.

The Bucks also aren't going anywhere... Hope Nurse is working on a strategy that make Giannas a shooter. The Deer won't be able to make up for their 2 through 9 talent discrepancy in the second round if Giannas stumbles at alll. If he doesn't... There is a very easy arguement to make for Raps n Bucks round 3 for the ECF.

Collars are a little tighter in the Philly front office as the Buttler Effect starts to set down some roots. You'd think a guy who has punted two teams prior to this one would be a more accommodating soul.. but not so. Philly might not get out of the first round .

The Pacers are better than the Hinkies and if they are part of the 4 vs 5 matchup with homecourt they have enough to send the Hinks back to Philly a lot humbler. Do they have enough to get out of round 2 ? Depends on the matchup.

What to make of the Chowders ? Every time the SS Chowder starts to pick up speed and begin to cruise.. they hit some rough water.. Last up was the shoving match between Brown and a Morris twin (go figure eh ?A Morris twin involved in a team controversy) over who knows what... While delightful no one saw the Chowders struggling for most of the season. Since they are not whacking the coaching genius and deity that goes by the name of Brad in the near future kinda think the Chowders are prime to make a trade... less is more in Boston. If they don't... its going to take a leader to emerge to chart the path to homecourt.
Hate their guts.. but think the Chowders nose out Indy for 3rd.

                      • Hey Demo, how do you see the Jazz going into the last 40 games or so? I really like their set up with Snyder but I'm not sure that relying on Mitchell so heavily is the best for a guy who only recently seems to be coming out of a sophomore slump.

                        • Crazy that the only truly bad team in the West is the Suns. The 2nd worst record in the entire western conference is Memphis and if they were in the east they’d currently be tied for 8th and in a playoff spot. ... in the battle of East vs West... something things don’t change.

They have only played 18 games at home so far and they are 43 games in...A back end loaded home heavy schedule helps them.

See them being able to post 26 to 28 wins to close out the year... The schedule is favourable in terms of whose left on it to play.....and where they play them.

See them posting anywhere between 48 ......to if it goes exceedingly well with no injuries.... 50 wins....

That should be enough to nose out one of the Lakers/Clippers or Blazers....

This is a bona fide SWAG.. but I am sure enough to bet bar bought beers on it

Jazz post a 49 and 33 season mark.... good enough to get in.. maybe good enough to play in the 4-5 or 3-6 slot.

Goebert is one of if not the best rim protector in the league and he can score some. Ingles does not make anyones radar but all he does is post numbers and help you win. Favours is a better known player than Ingles but as good and brutally effective at what he does. The Jazz front line is really effing solid.
In the backcourt the league makes adjustments for 1st year phenoms and its on Mitchell to adjust to that.. He seems to be coming around. Between Rubio and Exum you have a couple of good ball handlers that don't need to score... The Mormons are a pretty good club and given they are around 500 after a road heavy 1st 40 it shows just how hard to win on the road it is in the NBA.

Have to think they are in the hunt for the playoffs as well. The what if also says if Donic is in the Valley of the Sun.. then Dallas would suck bad enough to be out of it as well... Kids a player. No fear. Has played in venues where they likely threaten to kill him after they kill his family. No love lost in the Balkans. He is as skilled as he mentally tough.... The player of this draft.

Definitely not discounting the East’s top 5, (which is stronger than it’s been in ages) — though it severely drops off after that. Meanwhile, the West is pretty reasonable 1 through 14... ha.
