Didn't see this coming: Report: Lakers move on from Tyronn Lue for vacant head-coach job

According to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times, Lue turned down a contract offer of three years, worth $18 million, supposedly because he wanted a longer term.

Confirmed: Tyronn Lue is an idiot. He likely knows it's his last NBA head coaching contract so he holds out for 4-5 years. Now he might have to take an Assistant job to stay in the league.
Another overrated coach. The ONLY reason he's won a championship is becaise of LeBron.

If the Lakers were smart they would hire Ettore Messina.

    • The pool of coaches to chose from is small. It's why the same ones keep getting opportunities.

I don't exactly blame Lue for trying to get more in this situation. He could probably get equivalent or close to the same contract elsewhere, but coaching the Lakers/LeBron comes with way more pressure and stress. In his mind the additional years he's asking for is compensation for the extra headaches he's going to have in LA

      • It wasn't just the contract length. Lakers were also telling Lue who to hire as assistants (ie, Jason Kidd).

The common theory is the Lakers were placating Lebron by trying to to sign his coach but they didn't really want him. The common term length for a coach is 5 years and they get a say on who they want helping them. Lakers also have a boat load of $$$ so if they didn't like Lue after a year they could fire him. The 3 years was a bit of an insult.

Lakers are a tire fire. Next step.. trading Lebron for pennies on the dollar.

        • Sounds like they just wanted to tether lue to lebrons 3 year window, and then start fresh again after. He probably doesnt wanna be type cast as lebrons figure head, and I don't blame him.

he'll get another offer eventually. The guy did beat golden state to win a title, no matter what people think of him, he did something right.

No one wants to coach Lebron anymore. Lue might be one of their last options. I hear they're also interviewing Vogel, but that he was originally pegged to be an assistant to Lue, so it sounds like they're already running low on interest. Sounds like Lebron is turning into the Eugene Melnyk of the NBA - too much meddling and eventually no one worth their salt wants to deal with that.

              My thoughts as well.
This reflects how the Lakers brass think of LeBron too.
He can be traded before his contract ends, and the Lakers probably can't see Lue having success without LeBron.

The way i see it the lakers were not going to let him pick his assistants. They wanted to load to assistant positions with jason kidd and maybe tom thibedau. That screams if you sturggle out the start your going to be fired and replace by an assistant. Say what you want about lue but he's a champonship winning coach. He sure schooled casey every time we played. They treated him like a rookie in the hiring process. Smart move for him to walk away IMO. He'll get another job.

                • Kevin Durant will miss the remainder of the Golden State Warriors‘ Western Conference semifinal against the Houston Rockets with a strained right calf.

An MRI exam Thursday confirmed the Warriors’ initial diagnosis. The team is travelling back to Houston for Friday’s Game 6 but Durant stayed behind in the Bay Area to undergo treatment. He is to be re-evaluated next week, meaning if there is a Game 7 in the series Sunday he would be out of that one as well. The Warriors lead the series 3-2.

                    • If the Rockets still lose this series, then they should just blow their team up. If you can't beat the Warriors without Durant, then you'll never beat them.

Maybe.... maybe not. The "Other Guys" were just looking for an opportunity to show the world they didn't actually need Durant. Warriors have been dis-interested and they just found their motivation. They were sitting around watching Durant at times. It might take a game or 2, but I would not be surprised to see the Warriors go back into 73-win game mode.

true its the best chance the rockets will ever get... however a team of klay steph. iggy and draymond is still a champonship contending team. I mean they won a ring without KD

They did... but but Iggy is getting pretty long in the tooth and this iteration of the GSW doesn't have much in the way of a bench. Its Philly thin.

The championship team led by Thompson and Curry had pretty good depth and a good bench.

If Durant is out for the rest of the show..... its wide open..

                            • Denver's showed up in the first quarter on the road in game 6.

WE TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE TRIED THAT.

I’d rather be playing the Blazers too.
