Its crazy how the NBA and NHL want to start getting into the gambling side of sports as well. I don't know how anyone could take the league seriously if they get a cut of betting revenue.

I don't have any doubt that there's still some "preferred winners" amongst NBA referees in any given game. It would help if the NBA policed more of the egregious calls and non-calls that are so blatant in many games. I'm all for the lower X% of referees being shipped to the lower leagues every year to improve their efficiency but I'm sure the unions won't allow the betterment of the league in this manner.

This is before the need to address the "star" calls and phantom fouls that infuriate both casual and long term fans alike....
Off the top of my head, it's the league with the most calls ("penalties") per minute and and total game and therefore the most opportunities for abuse.

The league will make money off gambling revenue whether Team-X wins or losses. So I can't see how this knowledge makes the NBA less credible (as an entity) for any specific referee whistle.

The NBA says they police referees. The problem I have is that it is behind closed doors. Any penalty referees receive for consistently bad calls should be made public just like when they fine players for techs or complaining etc. Transparency would go a long way in combating corruption or just proving the league is fair and legitimate.

great video. the truth.. It's obvious that sometimes the refs are taking weird decisions, because they have been paid for that. It's a very big business, they make a lot of money on it, by fooling gamblers. Once I've been playing in a Bitcoin casino, I made a bet on a NBA match, and everything was going perfectly as I have predicted, but in the last moment, the ref has taken a super stupid decision and I have lost my bet. It's not happening in every match, but it's definitely real

After listening to that podcast (not sure what it was called) I unfortunately started to look with a bit more open eyes on the refs. The result?
To me it does appear that in some situations they are either adjusting calls for the nba or for gambling reasons. It's not every ref, or even every game. But it sure seems obvious for the big market teams.

A/ The NBA is a business
B/ The NBA is in the entertainment business, not the business of sport
C/ The NBA exists to sell; primarily a television contract, merchandise, tickets, franchise valuation and to a certain degree, gambling
D/ It's in the interest of the NBA to promote/have their elite athletes in major markets to facilitate what's in line C. They do this by allowing player collusion, essentially voiding of valid contracts and tampering with players under contract
E/ The NBA employs/decides who and pays the referees who understand in no uncertain terms, what is in the best interest of the NBA and that's in line D above
F/ The NBA is the only professional league with the degree of phantom fouls, weak fouls and star favouring fouls on the planet. Nowhere else do you see the amount of fouls called on star players who were not even touched, barley touched or obviously embellishing/flopping (rivaling soccer where at least they and the NHL call embellishment). It's disgraceful but actively promoted and encouraged.

The NBA is a racket and very likely in loose servitude by with their own referees and/or the gambling community. Those who pretend anything but the above are naive. Even the players admit the NBA is a business....and it's barely more than the WWE.

The NBA is definitely the sketchiest of all professional sport leagues. Well maybe soccer is the sketchiest, but I don't follow it. But a team out in Canada won the championship in 2019.. so even with all the manipulations by the refs/league/etc.. it didn't do enough to swing a championship that year.

Yeah, this is true. This is how it works not only in basketball, but in all other sports, and even in life as well. One small decision, which doesn't look very important at the first sight, can totally change the course of the match, and decide the winner. I figured this out a long time ago, so this is why I don't bet on sports anymore.
