  • Waiting for Boston is bad for the Pels.

Our offer, the Blazers offer, get worse this summer. We could lose Kawhi and then there's no offer from us. The Knicks offer could be worse, they could be bumped down to #4 in the draft. The Blazers offer gets worse in the summer. The Boston offer comes on board in the summer, but with less competition a cooler market. If Ainge is worth his salt, his offer get worse too. The Lakers are 6 months closer to signing him, their offer ought to get worse.

Don't move him if you don't like the offers, just don't presume the person with the most to offer is bringing it because he beckoned you and your ass waited for them to show up.

Somewhat the same rational for Porzingis + Knox + second , or Porzingis + first. That doesn't put the Knicks into a playoff position, let alone contend.
The Knicks are kind of a special case because there's a distinct path to success for them via trading for AD: they get another year of AD, which means they can sell themselves to serious free agents, because it's New York City. If they trade Porzingis plus Tim Hardaway Jr (who you have to trade to make the money work) plus picks for AD, they have over forty million dollars in cap space to sign Kevin Durant, for example, and then they fill out the roster with vet minimum deals and cap exception signings and then they're instantly the best Knicks team in at least twenty years if not more. If they don't get KD, they probably offer a lot of money to Kyrie. If Kyrie says no, that's when you offer big money to Klay or Kemba, and at this point you can probably afford a third star as well (Tobias Harris or Khris Middleton, for example).

New York probably trades this year's first with some very limited protections on it (top-1 protected, probably, so they're not trading away their chance at Zion Williamson) and although it's a high-risk play it's not a bad play by any means.

Now there are reports that the Pels do NOT want to deal with the Lakers.

        It's happening boys!
The Lakers never had a good offer on the table. This isn't like when they blew their chance at Kawhi by being stingy and not throwing every good young player at him: this is worse, because now all those good young players have played half a season more, and it turns out maybe they're not that good. Kuzma is fine, an NBA starter, but he's not a star and likely won't become one. Josh Hart is a solid rotation player. Ivica Zubac is maybe a rotation player. Lonzo is excellent at everything except shooting in a league where teams need their point guards to be able to shoot.

"Because Rich Paul will get better endorsement deals for Davis in LA" is not a reason for the Pellies to trade him there. "Because it will make LeBron happy" isn't a reason either.

        • So raps get Davis win two championships while him and kawhi re-sign.

All the decent players shun lebron and avoid lakers like the plague because they all saw how he assembled players on other teams then left them stranded when he felt like it.

            • What if Kyrie Leaves the Celtics this summer? Would be nice to see Celtics give up the bank for AD and then Kyrie leaves.

Offers from non-contending/non-playoff teams would be better for the Pels, as they would come in the form of young prospects and higher draft picks, but there's one big reason they're not gonna get many of those offers, if any: lesser teams offering their farm to get AD will remain shitty after getting him, and with less potential to get better later on without their picks.

For example, I bet the Pels would like Devin Booker/Ayton + TJ Warren + Picks from the Suns for AD,, but if the Suns did that they'd be totally screwed, their team would maybe be marginally better now with one top 7 player in the league in AD, but royally screwed for the future. Somewhat the same rational for Porzingis + Knox + second , or Porzingis + first. That doesn't put the Knicks into a playoff position, let alone contend.

The teams interested in AD are the contenders. They're the ones capable of sacrificing quality pieces to get him and still be better off, so that's where the offers are gonna come from.

As a side note, teams gotta be careful here when offering the farm for AD, so they don't become the new Pelicans. He's an excellent player no doubt, but the reality is he made the playoffs only twice in his career, never a conference finals, and yeah the supporting cast never been stellar there, but guys like Holiday, Rondo and Cousins (all of whom he played with) are not bottom of the barrel either. He needs good players around him, so there's gotta be some reasonably strong talent left after the trade.
I mean what about a team like Dallas? I don't know what picks they have, but they could offer a package of first round picks, Dennis Smith, expiring contract of Wes Mathews etc. Heck they could throw in Barnes if NO wanted him too...basically everyone but Luca and DeAndre.

That's a shit package. Nobody is lining up for Dennis Smith jr. And Dallas unprotected 1sts would be mid to late in no time with doncic and Davis

I think Lebron and Klutch sports are making an effort to destabilize teams. The Kyrie stuff and Lebron tagging him in an IG post are all coming from Lebron trying to Diminish Boston’s offer. It’s a coordinated effort to get AD on the Lakers by using the media who are falling for it.

It's damn near freezing in Atlanta, by Saturday it's going to be +2 here and damn, look at Chicago.

                                I mean we can't catch a break.
