What's missing with all the McCaw hand wringing is where is Masai on all this? He must be OK with it or you must think Nurse is defying his orders to sit him lol. Gotta trust Nurse and Masai a bit longer?

Masai will absolutely make management decisions to walk away from guys, like when they let Lou Williams walk because Casey didn't bother to run a real defence or any real plays to end quarters the entire season he was here. If he doesn't like McCaw being used like this, that's likely his path forward rather than telling Nurse to coach differently.

Masai doesn't like to interfere with his coach. It took until the last desperate season with Casey for Masai to insert Nurse specifically to run the offence and change the way things were done, and that was years coming. And even then there's no indication he ever looked to influence who plays what minutes.

Not saying that couldn't happen but I would find it bizarre if a quality leader like Ujiri would resort to those kind of machinations for zero benefit.

It seems slightly odd that a guy who runs a multi-billion dollar organization would choose to engage his management team in a resource intensive trade exercise with all the unforeseen consequences rather than simply have a 5-minute conversation with his colleague, all in service of undercutting his colleague.

If Masai makes a deal to remove McCaw, he'll be doing so with Nurse already knowing that Masai doesn't want him playing. But that still doesn't mean Masai will restrict Nurse's freedom to play who he wants as head coach and order him to play guys differently.
The Raptors' front office and coaching staff by all accounts are very collaborative and I'm sure they have these discussions daily. But the call is made by Nurse, and Masai won't want to step on that unless he absolutely has to, based on his history.

I'm sure they converse all the time, but there's a difference between he and Nurse understanding why Nurse does what he does and Nurse understanding that Masai sees things difference, and Masai telling Nurse to bench a specific player.

So he won't step on his toes telling Nurse not play a guy but he'll go out of his way to trade a guy so that he can't be played? That seems way worse to me not only vis-Ã -vis the coach but the player who now gets traded cause Ujiri won't have an uncomfortable sit down with his head coach?
Seems like quite a strange way to treat your colleagues but what do I know.

Lot of mental gymnastics there......

It's Masai's job to decide what players are on the team, how is there any confusion on this?

OK but the point being that if playing McCaw really made zero sense and it was entirely obvious that Nurse has no idea what he';s doing in this regard (plus it flies in the face of Masai's own rational thinking process), he definitely would have had this convo with Nurse ergo he's fine with what Nick is doing for whatever reasons THEY have.

I don't think its gotten to the epidemic we all think it has in our own little echo chamber. Masai isn't gonna tell the defending champion coach, and 2019-20 coach of the year favorite, how to coach.
He shouldn't be playing Mccaw. Full stop. He's still a better coach OVERALL than anyone here put together. Also full stop.9 time first team all-RR, First Ballot Hall of Forum

Maybe Nurse and Masai both like McCaw and are happy to have him on the team. I'm thinking we as fans are over thinking this. McCaw is on the team (and was re-signed for 2 guaranteed years) because Masai and Bobby like him. Nurse is playing him a lot because he likes him.
Not everyone is perfect.

So say they had the conversation and gasp they disagreed? Then the choice is a) Masai lets it continue to the detriment of the team, b) Masai makes a direct order to Nurse to change his rotations, or c) Masai removes the problem by making a trade. Why is it so hard to imagine that scenario?
I'm just saying that if it was entirely so grievous a mistake that absolutely everyone can see it but Nurse, Masai sees it and is obviously OK that it continues for now. Stay tuned ....
