  • I would think he'd skip Saturday's game and play in the Brooklyn game on Monday which is at home. That way he can get acclimated in Toronto (find a place to live, etc).. and meet with coaches and the team on Sunday when the team flies back.

NY is worse than Atlanta, and we probably get Kawhi back for NY too.

    • Gasol's adaptability to the new will be tested with this move. He's gotta be really excited about this if he's the person I get the feeling he is:

--He played for the same team for over 10yrs, and this is his "first move". From the deep south to the North. At age 34, it's gotta be huge for him and his family.
--He's older now, and perhaps for the first time in his career, in spite of still being a big part of the offence, he won't have to carry it on his back anymore.
--He's now on a contender with a clear shot at the finals. This is his chance to go out with a bang.
--He'll be out of a grit'n'grind, ride 'em to the ground style, to a free flowing, balanced offence that manages loads. He will be appreciated like a fine wine, rather then binge drunk night-in-night-night out.
--He will get to play with old teammates in Kyle and Serge

He's gotta be thrilled, feel valued and rejuvenated, and as a result, he will most likely beast and give his absolute best. That's the hope anyway.

      • You have to look at what this does in terms of the team's overall play. You can't compare JV to Gasol in their respective situations.

His passing will help create better shots. His shooting will spread the floor. His defense will keep him on the floor at the end of hte game.

I am going to miss JV though....god damn

Knicks ARE the worst team in the league right now. I dont see neither Gasol or Kawhi being rushed for that one. Boucher & Miller will probably be called up for that game.

Good point. Who is going to rip down rebounds on this team? Kawhi a few. Serge? OG? Gasol? lol
Yeah, that was my biggest concern. Gasol's personal rebounding numbers are even worse than Ibaka. The hope would be that Gasol is like Brook Lopez, where he's good at boxing out so that his teammates get that rebound. Anybody got Gasol on/off stats for Grizzlies team rebounding?

His passing better to be kawhi or Serge or Pascal for easy buckets since we still have no one realiable at the 3, even in open looks

Maybe the Raps should call Eric Moreland back.

I've read some posters concerns about Marc and Ibaka playing at the same time and taking away each others space. They do have experience at the 5 & 4 together playing for Spain. Raptors assistant coach Sergio was their national team head coach when they played for Spain and probably has some advice for Nick.

Siakam should be starting, his 33 and 14 speaks for itself. You don’t bench a young player when hes breaking out like this.

I'm not sure anyone is actually advocating for Siakam to come off the bench. Just saying that Serge can start playing at the 4 again, when Gasol is in, because Gasols skillset matches up a little better than JV and Serge did.

Of course Siakam is starting. He's the best matchup for Giannis. Even better than Kawhi.

Yeah I like that we have the two of them but I'm very scared of having Serge at PF again. War flashbacks from last year. He found his perfect flow at C and that's where he should be. The idea is to have one of Serge and Gasol on the floor for 48 minutes every night (unless it's a blowout).

I think that's what will happen, but in the unlikely event Nurse wants to start both of them, I'd keep Siakam starting and go Lowry-Kawhi-Siakam-Ibaka-Gasol. That would slide Green out of the starters, so not ideal, but it's one of those "good problems to have".

Any way you slice it, the top 7 guys on this team are exceptional. Your 8th in Norm have become more and more solid this year, with OG sliding in too for specialized defensive assignments and that's your playoff rotation right there. They built this for the playoffs and when your start looking at the subtleties it really shows. They're really well rounded.
