Beasley is a good player. Getting his opportunities is what he needs. His defence is suspect, but as we've seen 10 games into the season, offence is important to the Raps as well. He is oozing potential without a doubt. HOWEVER, BC knows that Toronto is very much like Miami (in a sense that distractions in the city is rampant). He knows his potential, but he also knows that Beasley could just implode and contaminate the rest of the young crew. It's just too much of a gamble for the organization.
PS> Considering that the team was eyeing Kleiza for some time, it was impossible for BC to go after Beasley anyway. Unless of course, the team went after Kleiza but never traded for Wright.Last edited by Balls of Steel; Tue Nov 16, 2010, 12:50 AM.“The saving of our world from pending doom will come, not through the complacent adjustment of the conforming majority, but through the creative maladjustment of a nonconforming minority.” - Martin Luther King

Yeah 'cause we need more of those guys whose only contributions are of the offensive kind...no thanks. I am not convinced that with Beasly in the current team we'd be much better off. Sure he's more athletic than Kleiza, but is he really better? Or just better numbers with Kleiza just struggling? Or do you stick him at PF alongside Bargnani so that we have 2 defensive studs inside. Yeah. Not.
I want to see what we get for that TPE, if anything at all (due to lockout and such).

Miami couldn't unload Beasley because this dude has serious mental health issues. Pegging him as a laughable pot smoking dude sidesteps the fact that no team wants to the liability of a guy suffering from depression and whatever else hasn't been disclosed. When pressure starts to mount or the stress of long NBA season begins to take its toll, he will crack. At best he will be a bad influence, at worst he will be a tragic sports headline about mental illness, suicide, and the pressures put on young athletes. Maybe Minnesota will get lucky and he'll pan out. I hope so.
Damarcus Cousins got passed up about 3 or 4 spots in the draft because dude is a thug and trouble. Sacramento took a shot on him because he fell to them at 5th pick. Maybe he'll pan out too. The thing is, its a gamble, and most teams aren't willing to roll the dice. I wouldn't.Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

What you're saying is like lumping seat belt violators in with murderers.

Were going to be a 20 win team for the next few seasons,it doesnt take a hurt to take a look at ANYBODY with upside
Thats what you do when your a bad team, you gamble on players...If your the Lakers you dont take those gambles cuz ur already playing with a ship roster and cant take the side effects if there are any....PLUS i think the issues about him are overblown...
He's a young guy who hasnt fully learned or developed yet he aint the first guy or the last to come into this league lacking maturity...As a bum team i thnk it was worth the look or gamble given the potential....we lose nothing by trying...He dont need to be a long term guy IF he doesnt produce and is cancerous you get rid of him or dont re up him....i still think its more fruitful than a TPE that has a limited expiration date...esp considering BC has showed an ineptness to make any kind of roster change that impacts this team thru trades...

If he was on the Raptors and he was pulling the same shenanigans as he was in Miami, people would still be shitting all over Colangelo for taking Beasley instead of the TPE.
While Beasley has the talent, he has to put the stats up consistently. ANd his had has to be there. Even Love made a comment this season in reference to Beasley saying that he was like 22 going on 8. It's hard to take flyers on guys like that.
We don't know what the TPE will amount to, so why rip on it?

since when is 16 shots a game "a ton" ?
Michael Beasley 32.5 PT .545 of 25.3 FG .591 of 5.5 FT .583 of 3.0 3P 6.0/1.5 RB 2.8 AS 1.0 BL 1.0 ST 2.8 TO 3.8 PF 38.6 MN 4/4 GS (last 4 games)
Michael Beasley 25.4 PT .497 of 20.7 FG .711 of 5.4 FT .412 of 2.4 3P 4.7/1.0 RB 2.1 AS 0.9 BL 1.3 ST 2.9 TO 4.1 PF 35.6 MN 7/7 GS (last 7 games)
Beasley is looking like he is really shaping up but I don't have any regrets because of character issues and off court issues. Even if he came here I don't think he'd of gotten nearly as much attempts.
