Overall I am pleased with what Triano has done this year. He has a young team working their @sses off and they have not quit. There have been a few bad games but for the most part they are competitive. Not much more you can ask for considering this is a full blown rebuild. Drafting a future star is going to be extremely important this year.

With that said, the game against MIL was dreadful coaching. Poor defensive match ups, poor plays in crucial times, poor time outs. That was a game the Raps gave away. The conspiracy theorists would have a leg to stand on with the tanking debate after that game.
You have to give credit where credit is due and 90% of the roster has been competitive night in, night out. Whether thats because of triano or the players it doesn't matter its a plus for Jay.

What bothers me is that going into this year Jay was suppose to be rewriting the playbook and have a system here in toronto similar to utah where they have one set formation and 50 million variations off that set. In that respect I think he has failed .An example, why is barg starting most of his offense from the 3 point line and not the high post just that alone completely eliminates several options. His rotations were terrible the beginning of the season and his plays out of time outs are getting worst as the season goes on as we have seen from last nights game. He has alot of excuses for a head coach or at least thats what they feel like to me.

Surprised Matt that you are pleased with Triano. I was a supporter at the beginning as I saw him as a coach for the developing players. Not seeing that this year. His substitutions are atrocious, not just last night, but most games. His lineups are a mish-mash even when he has players healthy (which is not often it must be stated), his time-out call is indicative of his lack of awareness of the game. He is not developing the players, and in my opinion has been partially responsible for driving the health of a few of the players into the ground.

I have jumped off the Triano wagon that I helped build, or at least paid for the paint job, and now I want to blow out his tires. All for the rebuild team, and love the patience Colangelo is having, and I am 100% not in favour of firing a coach in mid-season. That said, Triano better start developing his own skill set and quickly. He has some time to do so, so we'll see.

Keep in mind the team's talent is lower than many others - something that I hope BC is working on tiredlessly.

I think there has been development of the young guys - Amir still makes bonehead fouls/plays but he has shined numerous times as well, DD has certainly developed, Davis is progressing, Bargnani has shown flashes of brilliance but still inconsistent - I'm not sure Jesus H. Christ could help him be consistent. Bayless is debateable because how much has the coaching staff worked with him thus far?

I would disagree with the development.

Agree with the game coaching - awful and it seems to be getting worse of late. I wonder if he is rattled where he is searching for answers with the regular rotation all messed. If he is trying to make the game as close as possible but still lose, he is doing a great job.

Matt you make me laugh. I agree there has been some development and maybe I should be a little more specific. I would lean more to his limiting of davis' minutes when he had gas in the tank, playing Bayless limited minutes after strong games (I buy the showcasing calderon argument but doesn't work if you work him into another injury), not playing Alabi during a blowout, ignoring Julian Wright during defensive gaps earlier in the season (which has changed lately more due to injuries and yes he has limitations but develop him and utilise his strengths). No question some of the core players have developed this season but I would argue this is almost in spite of how Triano is playing them.
Don't get me wrong I would love if Triano can develop his own skills so we could have some consistency but I just don't see it. He needs to get mote situational and definitely pay attention to the game. I whole heartedly do not see PJ as a solution nor is Brown. We could dream of McMillan but I would say LAL is in line ahead of Toronto if he chooses to leave Portland. Not convinced there is another option coming down the pipe (not sure JVG would be interested)

I don't understand why Trey Johnson is getting minutes ahead of Wright ??!!! In what universe that makes sense if beyond me unless BC and Triano has a fetish with the Johnson last name. Who ever is a Johnson must be a baller

7 months in to a full fledged rebuild. I cannot stress how important this draft is. One thing to keep in mind is OKC/SEA. They are doing very well now but even when they drafted Durant, Green, and Westbrook, they still only won 23 games.
Good observation. Actually you know during 2009, with all the future-all-stars that they had in OKC and still couldn't win jack sh*t. Then there was this one trade that happened and they began winning games in bunches in the final month and then made it to the playoffs next year: they got Sefolosha for a bargain price. That one trade stabilized the starting lineup and allowed the All-Stars to become all-stars and win games.

One or two Raptors have to become defensive specialists in the future, either by trade or by drafting. System defenders and spot up 3pt shooters.

And then we have to play them.
