That is quite the inept plan, not that I think Jordan is a bright man (anyone that has spent as much time and money in casino's as he has must have some logic impairment).

Here is the other view of Cleveland drafting Thompson:

With two of the top five selections in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson, which threw the draft its first curve ball, but gave them the two players they had ranked at the top of their board.

They had projected Irving and Thompson as the two prospects with the most potential in this class and fell in love with their engaging personalities after bringing them in for workouts.

They also saw the chemistry between the players. Rather than drafting a foreign prospect like Jonas Valanciunas - which was heavily considered - the team knew that Irving and Thompson were already close friends, could relate with one another and would be able to go through this process side by side.

After Irving was picked, he was ushered into the media room and his press conference dragged on throughout several selections. As the fourth overall pick was announced, Irving was being asked a question, but kept leaning over to the television to see who would be joining him in Cleveland. After seeing Thompson was the selection, Irving smiled and his eyes lit up.

"I'm really looking forward to it," Irving said. "Tristan is a great friend of mine, and just having another fellow freshman being drafted to Cleveland and playing with him, I'm really excited. He's also a young player, and having somebody alongside you that will go through the rookie ups and downs with you, it will make the transition into the NBA that much easier."

While many were surprised to see Thompson selected, the Cavs rely heavily on advanced analytics, which chart how effective a player will be five years down the road. When Thompson's statistics, age and efficiency were put into Cleveland's formula, Thompson actually had a higher rating than Irving. The numbers also ranked Thompson higher than recent big men selected in the top ten such as Greg Monroe and Derrick Favors.

Now, playing with Irving, it'll be even easier for him to reach his full potential.

"I love it," Thompson said. "One of my strengths and attributes is getting up and down the floor so playing with Kyrie, it's going to be exciting. Knowing Kyrie and having a friendship prior to the draft, it's definitely [better] having somebody there to support you and go through what you go through. He's almost like a brother to me, and will have my back and I'll have his. We'll get through this together."

Around this time last year, there was panic in Cleveland due to LeBron James' upcoming free agency. Now, with Irving and Thompson, there is hope that the Cavaliers can turn this team around and once again return to an elite level. The cornerstones are in place and the future in Cleveland looks extremely bright.

It is pretty clear why the word was out the Raps were wanting Bismack so bad and why they didn't even work out JV.

It appears Thompson was selected at 4 to trade to Charlotte who feared Detroit would take him at 8. JV would have been taken at 9.

Regardless the Bobcats hands down won this draft IMO. Walker + Bismack are going to be beasts if Bobcats don't utterly **** up.

this doesn't make too much sense, because even if JV is off the board Cleveland should still do that trade. If you drafted Thompson for the Cats and have no interest in him it's still better to just get the 2 later picks and make your own decision and take someone like Burke or Leonard at 9 and whoever is there at 19.

Also the Bobcats/Bucks/Kings trade happened before the draft even started, so Bobcats didn't even have a 19th pick at the time and there's no way they were going to give up 7 and 9.

I'm having a hard time believing this article.

I don't think Charlotte should be worried about how much they will score next season. They're in the same boat as Toronto, worrying about 3-5 years from now, not next season. And they do have Corey Maggette, now, who probably score better than Jackson and Wallace. He can't do anything else, but he can score.

I also don't understand blaming Cleveland for being greedy. Isn't that pretty much what you WANT your team to be? Or should they worry about not taking too much away from the other teams? If Toronto had the chance to get the top two picks, would you recommend them not doing that because it would be greedy?

If conventional wisdom suggests that you draft the best person available, then I'd have to say that Cleveland fucked up big time. It was a risk and if they went with conventional wisdom, they'd have JV and Irving. They gambled and lost. They hope to god that Thomas does work out for them. A team promising to trade you an additional pick is tempting but very foolish especially when we're talking about the top 4 here. If this were the Raps, I wouldn't recommend it for it is very risky. They drafted Thompson for Charlotte, not their team. I don't care personally. It was their greed that led us to Jonas.

Whats done is done, whoever got fucked, got fucked but at the end of the day, we got our center!!! Good job BC for showing your commitment to this long rebuilding process eventhough your contract is only 2 yrs, that says it right there that BC picking Val is for the team's future and not for himself trying to sell another contract extension. Im pretty sure if all goes well and he keeps doing things like this, he will be our GM for a while..

Part of that sentiment for me was that Cleveland & Charlotte were trying to game Toronto. At least I believe that may well have been the case since I am not privy to trade possibility discussions and the arrangement which was being reported about Cleveland and Toronto flipping their picks.

I dont believe the Cavs fans are very enamored with that move going sour. I know I wouldnt if I were a fan.

You might be right, but Valanciunas was believed to be the 3rd or 4th best player in the draft and most thought Cleveland would take him at 4 if Utah didn't take him at 3. That's a HUGE gamble to take that he'll last until 7. Especially when both Toronto and Washington could most definitely use him.

I hadn't heard this before. Interesting. But Valanciunas was the best pick, regardless, and a gift Colangelo couldn't pass up. For the second year in a row. Cleveland couldn't have thought that he would have lasted two more picks. Not when he was so highly sought after.
