  • I can't help but question why Terrence Jones is not getting more discussion in the top ten. When watching him you just can't help but notice him all over the floor. I was at a game in Kentucky this year and was trying to focus on Anthony Davis and MKG and throughout the game it was Terrence Jones who drew the eye. He is all over the court, fights hard for rebounds and has tons of energy, and quite a nice touch. I do not think he is necessarly a fit for the raps as I dont think he necessarily projects as a 3 and we are too packed at the 4 but I think he has a great opportunity to be one of the best players coming out of this draft.

I am also a big fan of Terrence Jones. He does a lot of things well, including passing and facilitating offensive flow. I think he can also be a very good defender and shot blocker. If he can play the 3, I think he could help to form a very strong front line.

      • I really like T. Jones at the SF position. He's one of the most versatile players in the draft beause can do everthing well. The SF position is generally thought of the most versatile position so he fits the bill. The problem is that Toronto has so many holes needing to be filled that I think they are in need of specialists like Lillard and Waiters whom can score from perimeter and penetrate.

        • Can't beleive we screwd up our draft position so late in the season when Beal could have been in our grasp. I'm truly disappointed that we are likely going to come out of this draft without Beal or Barnes. Keeping my fingers crossed that BC is trying to acquire either by moving up the draft or a draft day trade.

            • From everything I'm seeing and hearing Barnes is moving up the ladder. Haven't heard anything about Beal but most drafts have him in the top 3

              • Colangelo has gotten lucky two drafts in a row in terms of having a talent regarded much higher than where Colangelo selected him fall into his lap.

Last year JV was arguably the best player in the draft and he fell to #5 because of his contract.

The year prior Ed Davis was being regarded as a top ten talent and while he did not improve much this season he was still excellent value at #13 and has lots of potential. He's a better trade asset than a 13th overall pick. A lot better.

Here's to hoping somebody like Beal or Barnes falls to #8.

I think the Raptors are going to have to work a trade with the Warriors or Blazers, swapping picks, if they hope to land one of those two guys.

with luck pj3 shows some teams how awesome he could be that they pass on barnes. if anyone falls i think it will be him. only team i can see taking him over beal is washington to play wing man. and that's if he shoots lights out during workouts for them.

                  • Barnes made a huge mistake not coming out last year. It would be great if the Raptors benefit from that mistake. If Barnes falls to #8 the Raptors will have essentially landed two of the five top 2011 prospects expected to enter the draft last year. That's a huge influx of young talent at two weak spots.

                      • Yeah we have to move up to nab either of Beal or Barnes. Can't see either player dropping now that the memories of the NCAA tournament are fading and GM's are seeing what these guys can do up close and personal. Barnes' size and skill are going to be too impressive for a GM drafting in the top 5 to pass on.

The Chicago combines start today doesn't it?

                        • Barnes' skillset is something that would show well in individual workouts (i.e. moving off screens, catching and shooting, etc.). His stock should rise over the coming weeks.

As the season unfolded, I wasn't too high on Barnes. But if he were to drop, I would much rather go with Barnes than guys like Marshall, Rivers, Sullinger, Waiters, or Ross.

                          • Yeah, his game is tailored for the NBA. He's not a closer, but he hasn't reached his ceiling as yet either so it could be a part of his game that will develop down the line.

It's a sick feeling settling in that if we didn't go on that short winning streak and right towards the end of the season no less that we could have had Barnes or perhaps Beal. We end up with either of those two and nobody would give a damn next season if we tanked it or not to get them. All we had to do was stay the course...I'm having a glass half empty morning.

                            • Meh. If Barnes did fall, it would be ok to have him I suppose, but he doesn't look that great to me.

Damian Lillard and Terrence Jones seem the standout choices to me, looking at Win Shares, TS%, etc. Both seem like solid efficient players.

However since TJ is a combo forward, I'd be concerned about his ability to play SF full time. We already have two decent combo forwards in JJ and LK, so I'm not sure we need a third, especially given our glut at the 4.

So, I'm really liking Damian Lillard. Some say he's a bit like Bayless, but afaik Bayless was never as efficient as Lillard.

Beyond these two, I also like Terrence Ross, Quincy Miller, Perry Jones at least as much as Barnes.

I've got Barnes at the same level as Jeremy Lamb, Harkless, Waiters and Marshall, so my big board for the 8th pick would be:

                              #1 -> Lillard
#2 -> Terrence Jones, if the scouts think he can play SF full time
#3 -> Perry Jones, if the scouts think he can play SF full time
#4/5 -> If neither of the above is likely to play SF full time then one of Terrence Ross or Quincy Miller
#6/7/8/9/10 -> Barnes, Jeremy Lamb, Waiters, Harkless or Marshall

As far as PBA at #8 I think its Lillard or Terrence Jones, with Perry Jones as the wild card.

Terrence Jones is the safest pick, but will likely mean we need to trade some our power forwards and/or combo forwards.

Damian Lillard and Perry Jones seem like the greatest superstar or bust, high risk/ high reward choice, however Lillard looks like a lock as at least a rotation combo guard, so even if not the next star pg, a useful player, efficient scorers are always useful.
