Even with a possible season ending injury to Rubio, the Twolves have good depth at the point right now with Ridenour and Barea who is due back soon froom an ankle injury.
Spanish Olympic team does not have Ridnour or Barea though.

The post is not about the TimberWolves. It is about Jose and his increased role on the Spanish national team.

IF Rubio is indeed done for the season (or a long period of time) I could see Calderon being on their radar since Khan wants playoffs.
They don't really have anything to give us. An expiring contract with no 2012 pick to go with it. The only 1st rounder they have is if Utah's if the finish 15th or higher (Utah is presently 13th last). They have tons of PF's but we are solid at that position. Unless there is a third team in the trade I don't see much available except a 2013 draft pick from them.

Even if Jose will play 40 minutes in every game in Olympics, i don't see why can't he come back healthy and play 2 more seasons as a starter. and 4 more seasons as a back up after that. All you need to do is to draft Marshall. In that case Jose might turn to back up next season even. If we get Kabongo, it will work perfect by Jose going to bench in 2-3 years.
I don't believe Jose will be be injured in these Olympics.
Sure we can trade Jose, just make sure you don't receive a bust for it... or hedo. and no less than top 20 pick and a back up PG (or SG)

He didn't come back healthy in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

The only way I'd trade Jose is if it creates any combination of cap space, a player who would be considered as part of the core moving forward, and/or a draft pick.

If the Raptors have to take a bad or mediocre contract to get it done - no thank you.

I was in casino and i was eager to bet. I was not sure i should bet on red or black.. I came to roulette and i saw : "last 4 wins were black"...
i've decided to bet on black... guess what? red was a winner, and i have lost.

P.S. the story above is not true

But fact is, i will not jump into your Jose will be injured anyway, ship.
Please provide me an info from Raptors medicals staff

I can tell you, why he will not be injured. He is getting smarter. He knows what to do and what not to do. He might not even play in NT (national team). McKechnie is here.

But the main fact is is.. all those injuries were random. anyone can sprain ankle anytime. Jose has no chronical injuries, so i don't see why can't he be doing well for 5 more years at least.!

Now I am not all for trading Jose but Matt has a good point.

The laws of averages do not work so nicely with injuries. Now let's say the chances of it being black grew each time black was selected, then there may be a different story.

Calderon is getting older and all those injuries were simply not just "random". Players have a higher chance of injury when they are older. Players have a higher chance of getting injured when they are over worked and do not get a nice resting period. One reason why they have the offseason is to give players rest. The fact Jose has a history of getting injured after playing for Spain should be a flag, but now that the other pg who would have taken much of the burn is not going to be there? There is no doubt it should be taken into consideration in regards to Jose being traded.

That is my issue. Jose's injuries have not been freak accidents like, say, Andrew Bogut. All his injuries were pulled muscles and ligaments from overuse and lack of rest. There is much more than coincidence, in my opinion, that the one year after international competition where he has 4 months of down time he is not dealing with any pulls or strains.

The casino example is not worth the time to reply. There is much more to his injury history and future than random chance. If you or anyone else do not see that or agree with it, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I'm not really hoping to trade him, but if the right deal is there then you have to consider it. The good thing about Jose's injuries is that he has only missed 14 games a year, it's not like he is missing entire seasons or very long portions. When he is playing though he isn't playing 100% for most of the season.

It is indeed a big problem that Rubio got hurt for Calderon's expected health after the olympics. But if it is enough of a problem for management to consider trading him, they could instead talk to Calderon and the coach of the Spanish team about participating and playing time.

Did the Raptors have an understanding with the Spanish team?

Even easier would be (ignoring Calderon's injury tonight for the moment - till we know exactly what's up) to (have) manage(d) his playing time this season with the Raptors; it's an incredible 66 games in an unhealthy short period of time where we are playing for nothing. With Spain he will be playing for something.
