If only Casey had any of these qualities...

I'm also getting the feeling from some readings and radio spots I've heard that Casey won't be fired. Just a personal feeling i'm getting, but I could see Masai making some changes and seeing if Casey does any better. If it isn't going well halfway though next year he makes the change then.
That being said: I want Casey gone. Like yesterday. I remember reading a Lowe piece (can't remember when, March maybe?) basically stating that most NBA coaches have Casey's system figured out and find it easy to manipulate. Which we can all pretty much see. All it takes is a simple action to get a rotation out of the Raps, then its easy pickings with a drive or swing of the ball. So brutal.

Lowry and JJ are gamblers and not disciplined when it comes to defense. A system can only work if everyone buys in. One breakdown and you get exposed. It's a shit show for sure, but it's not like you can just fix all the problems by firing the coach.
People want simple answers and someone specific to blame. That's fine. But it's always more complicated than that.

It's not like the system was new or anything, various teams around the league have been running it for years. It wasn't as though every team only figured out how to exploit it in December 2014. Again, I've said this before, theoretically, the Raps should be able to run Casey's scheme effectively given the personnel. But some combination of: Amir's drop-off, the Lowry injury woes, Derozan's injury, Ross crapping the bed, Casey's unwillingness or inability to adapt; have combined to effectively destroyed the defense.

He couldn't handle a fluid situation.
Shit happens as you listed but he didn't adapt.
He is the very definition of insanity and it is why he should be fired.

Raptors might have 2 legit bigs but they are a looooooong ways away from Memphis.
JV = Gasol
Lowry = Conley
James Johnson = Tony Allen
DD = Courtney Lee
We just need the PF since the East is a poor man's version of the West.

I think you need a stronger word than poor or the PF needs to be beyond elite on D.
Raps are a bottom 5 on D while Grizz are top 3.

Other Scott wrote: View PostThat's not the real definition of insanity. And there's more things wrong with this team than Casey. There's no way to adapt to suddenly getting stuck with a much worse selection of players than you previously had. And yes he probably should be fired.
Casey had an improved roster from '13-'14 to '14-'15.
He didn't know what to do with it except play more ISO.
And if the definition is good enough for Albert Einstein, it is good enough for me.
