For all the talk about JJ's "screw ups" defensively, his net impact on the defence was overwhelmingly positive.

You can't expect to play if you show you're really sorta prepared to punch-out people who disagree with you - like your own coaches. It's not cowardice on their part. It's one (very dramatic) way to get the label "uncoachable". I hope he (like T-Ross and Bennett) can deal with the stuff between his ears. I think James' boosters are just going to have be satisfied that he's still with the team ... and hope he figures it out .... before the league flushes him ...
... And maybe stop implying that you "just don't get why he isn't playing more!! ... Is Casey stupid, or sumthin'??"

Here's the thing. I'm not a James Johnson booster. I had the same criticism of Casey's lack of use of Fields the season prior.
I'm a Raptors booster, and I want to see them win, and I believe that playing JJ more would have helped them do so.
Don't make it out like anyone wants JJ to succeed at the expense of the team. Quite the opposite.

All these guys have talent.
Circumstance is what separates many from success.

The thesis is essentially "maybe Dwane Casey is right and JJ hurts more than he helps, and it just somehow doesn't show up in any numbers at all, leaving no evidence at all that this could possibly be the case."

I reject any notion that people saying Casey was dumb to not play JJ more are simply JJ "boosters".Heir, Prince of Cambridge

Q. You’ve got eight guys 24 years old or younger and four guys 32 and older. How much can, will the veteran guys play?
A. That depends on the game, that depends on how the young guys are playing. Mr. Taylor and I talked about this. We think our veteran guys add value not just in the locker room and at practice, but game time, too. But we’re going to give the young guys every opportunity to play.
Q. Do you use one or two or three of those guys at game’s end?
A. Let me ask you this: If I play the young guys the first 3 quarters and I play the old guys in the 4th, how are the young guys going to learn to win games. Chances are, those old guys aren’t going to be here a year or two from now. It might look better on my resume if I have to look for a new job one day, that I won a couple extra games. But when you take on the job as head coach with a young team, you have to understand the sacrifice you’re making. My first job is to do right by the organization, by the players, not by me.

Even Sam Mitchell gets it.
Here we are going in to year 4 of JV and he still hasn't had an opportunity to play when the game matters most.
But the rallying cry has always been the Raptors have to win. Bullshit. What difference would 44 or 45 wins versus 48 or 49 wins make - especially when they lose 1st round of playoffs?
The only excuse I'm willing to entertain is Casey was trying to limit JV's future contract value. Anything else questions his intelligence.
